For the same reason that when you get sun-tanned the palms of your hand remain pale.

Actually Im milky white in appearance and have always had a darker shade of white skin under my feet and my palms are slightly darker than the rest of my skin too as they are always being used and put in chemicals they have like a reddy/purple tinge to them. I guess you could say Im the opposite. lol

Its all to do with pigmentation and areas that are more prone to coming into contact with everyday elements like chemicals or the sun.

If you stand out in the sun. Your shoulders and face get sunburnt first. Your standing on your legs so your feet are touching the ground and not exposed to the elements. Plus we all wear shoes and workers exposed to the sun always have tan body with white chest/abdomen and the white sock/boot tell tale. Our palms naturally face down so they are not being affected by the sun like the rest of our body.

It can also have to do with genetics. Some familys (eg african)are more prone to skin disorders, the fading skin condition (that Michael Jackson supposedly has) than others also.

Cheers.

yeah well i think it does have to do with the pigment in the skin... i have also noticed some of them with reddish hands and feet... so i guess it is just different in people.. i have not been around them much.. i am white and i am real white.. but i walk barefoot alot and get my feet a little brown but i scrub them every night..

your palms and feet dont get sunburned, so they dont need protection as much as say your face.
