The older dog is desexed and the younger dog is not. Ages are 10
and 8. This is new behaviour and the older dog has always been dominate over the young male. This happens mainly at night if i go and sit with them outside at night and give the younger dog a pat or call him over??Can dogs get dementia as they age??

"sexually suggestive" behavior is also a dominance behavior. Dogs "hump" each other or motion to show the other dog who is boss. It is a perfectly natural behavior, even females preform the act to show who she is dominant.

Senior dogs can get dementia, this is probably not a dementia display. Dementia in dogs is most often seen when dogs strart barking at nothing and for no reason. The have accidents in the house, even forget where the door to get inside is, even if they lived in that house their whole lives. I don' t think your dog is senile, just showing the younger one who is still boss, in his old age.

This is a dominance issue.
Yes, dogs can get dementia when they get older. You did not say the breed. Ten is old in some breeds, but not in others. Some people are using Focus Factor on their older dogs. I'm hearing that it is making a difference in them.

This is not unusual behavior, he is just showing dominate features.
If you are giving the younger dog attention and the older dog comes up and does this it is a sign of jealousy and dominance.

It is very common among dogs and wolves.
