ME 2! Seriously not lying

its a law in amercia (looked it up plus my dad lived there)
that you can not get hired as it as seen as taking a job from another amercian!

You have to be able to offer something to the country
i.e a buisness hiring amercians....

Hiya,

I too want to move to the US and have come across lots of stumbling blocks.

If you don't have money to buy a visa (approx $500k), then start your own business and open a US office and transfer yourself there while keeping the business running here.

If you don't want to start a business, get a job with an American company and try to get a transfer to the US office there.

If you're not keen on that some people meet and marry US citizens to get a green card. That's also proving to be very difficult and can take years.

Unless you have exceptional skills ie scientist, actor, business manager etc it's not easy so many Brits are looking elsewhere. Australia and New Zealand are begging for people. Canada is also a v. good option too.

Good luck

First, you should surf to the INS website to see what kind of visa you qualify for. You can't work, or even look for work, without proper paperwork. If you are in a field that might offer you a chance at sponsorship from a US based company, that would be your best route to working here. Otherwise, you will have to apply for a visa and green card the hard way. The diversity lottery isn't accepting applications from the UK just now, so that's not an option. If you have family in the US, they could also sponsor you.

Oh god... of all the countries in the world, why on earth would you want to go there.

The US pretty much has it's doors closed on immigration, even from their friends the UK... if you insist on going, then get a company to sponsor you... even then its no guarantee that you will get residency..... move to Ireland first for residency and then apply to the US, you'll have a better chance, they love the bloody Irish.

Go Australia or New Zealand, they are looking for people with skills at the moment, and these are far nicer countries than the US. Alternatively, head east to China or Dubai, lots of opportunites for westerners with big money salaries attached.

First you need either a Green Card or an other paper that allows immigration. Perhaps you need a job offer, depending on your qualifications.

Any idea about the region you'd want to live in? The kind of job you are capable of doing?

It all depends on where you want to live. Check to see if the city you want to live in has a local news paper and check their classified ads for jobs available. As far as a home you can contact alot of realters via the internet.

First you better find a job. Start sending resumes and networking. I wouldn't try to buy a house straight away. I would rent first and see how that goes. The first step...get a job.
