Oh they are little buggers aren't they..... my little one caught me out once too a while ago now.... I used my steam cleaner to extract it all and at the same time it disinfected it too.

If you can't do that, then try washing with some mild soapy liquid (fairy liquid) don't soak the bed, but give it a good wetting. Then for the fun part, lay towels over the wet and jump up and down on them, the weight from you will soak the water up again.

While its hot, you could air the matress outside and when completely dry, spritz it with a little febreze (anti bacterial version).

If that doesn't work, then you'll have to fork out for a new mattress or baby!

Try using the toddler sheets which don't allow the wet through. I think Boots and Mothercare sell them in the UK, but not sure where you are from .

I wish I knew to be honest. I just try to hand wash the mattress and dry it out in the sun if possible. Of course that is only practicaly when the weather is really good. The smell will probably still be there though. You could try one of those odour eating spray things. I sometimes just spray deoderant over the mattress and turn it over. Best thing I found is using the waterproof protectors. I used them for my first child until he was 5 and I use them for my baby now. They are great because you just put them in the wash with your linen. You could try a linen spray too.

You really need to buy a new matress as all the quick fix solutions won't work forever and if you are using harmful chemicals such as bleach, it will just damage the matress anyway.
My son is 4 and he's mostly dry through the night, but he still has on a waterproof matress protector for those nights when he has a little accident. Argos, Mothercare and Toy R Us do a great 3 piece waterproof kit for childrens single beds (waterproof pillow, quilt and matress cover) They can be washed and dry nicely on the line. (but cant be tumble dried......it melts!)

It's great being a mum! lol
I have used ecalyptus oil and water w/ a scrubbing brush and leaving it out in the sun for a few hours... that worked really well! No smell left behind.
Good Luck

I know how to stop it, I've just invented an electro-bed. Everytime the bed gets a soaking 20,000 volts remind u2pb4ugo2bed.
