One on one, he is a delightful little pup -- but whenever he is outside he goes beserk. I bought him about a year ago, as a pup, off of the internet, and I think he experienced a great deal of anxiety/trauma during his plane flight. That is the only explanation I can come up with. He tries to bite people in the ankles - and I mean, he can seem very vicious. He eventually warms up to people who enter the house, but usually it's after much harrassment on his part. What can I do to prevent him from hurting someone? I think he is very smart, and I do think he can overcome this, because one on one, he is simply delightful and lovey dovey. thanks!

He has a terrible time in the car - he can't bear to even get near it -- he throws up within a few minutes of being in the car. He is absolutely so traumatized by all that stuff.

Dog and people aggression outside are usually signs of fright. Get a choke collar and 6 ft leash. Correct the dog with the leash and firm no at the first signs of fright (growling) and control the dog at all times. Take the dog out a lot and into different situations (front yard, park etc) until the dog is socialized. With patience and firm control the dog will eventually behave and probably faster than you think

First off I don't think I would have bought a dog off the internet. But it does sound like that may be the problem. How does he do when you take a trip in the car? Does he show anxiety? If he does, that would point back to the flight. My schnauzer does this when I'm taking her somewhere. I think she feels that I am taking her somewhere and she won't be coming back. It also sounds like he is very attached to his momma. I have a yr. old schnauzer and she is very attached. Maybe when other people are around he feels that he has to share you and he doesn't want to do this. He may also feel that he is going to be taken away from you. Try talking to your vet, they may have some suggestions. I hope this helped and good luck.

the dog whisperer says that you should try to keep the dog by your side but in a calm way and voice cause if you act excited in any way he will react the same also you must give his head a slight turn away from the passersby to distract him from paying to much attention to them and my ex husband would train a young dog by acting like he was going to take their food and if the dog would bite at him he would grab it and show it who was boss by grabbing it around it's neck and scaring it

I don't have a witty response...but when I was a kid we had a black lab puppy that had a mind of his own....my mom took him to obedience training....it didn't work that well with our dog...but it may be a possibility with a mini schnauzer...good luck

My brother and his wife had a dog they loved very much but it was a "fear biter." When a dog attacks out of fear it can be very dangerous. They finally had to have the dog put down.
