well..i wouldn't listen to angel baby because she is mixed and has different hair. and another thing i would tell you is this..you hair will never be thicker that it was when you were a kid. Im sure you know this but alot of people seem to think that there hair will just get thicker than it has ever been for some reason...no product can change the way your hair grows..products out there add more body to the hair, but never change thickness.
My Tips:
1. wait at least 7-10 weeks for a relaxer...and if your hair/scalp is thin or sensitive, buy Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Relaxer ot Soft and Beautiful Botanicals Relaxer. They work well on sensitive scalp like mine and they make your hair much softer with less irritation
2. after each relaxer and one time in between get a trim. I know alot of balk women that are afraid to cut their hair, but im telling you it will make a big difference. Your hair will grow back more evenly without the stringy ends.
3. I am not going to tell you to not oil the scalp, because if you are like me...it is needed. For extremely dry scalps i like Jojoba Oil from organic root stimulator http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/ORGANIC-ROOT-STIMULATOR_c_176-1.html and i also like African Pride http://www.easywebstore.co.uk/head2toez/contentitempage~ContentID~186892.aspx
my rule is greese the scalp as much as you want, but watch how much you put on the hair. (depending on your hair thinckness and legnth)
4. You could also consider getting locks..hair grows fast and offers alot of style versitility.
5. the shampoo isn't as important as the right conditioner. Make sure you use a leave in conditioner as well to protect the hair during the week. Links to the two i like: http://www.softsheen-carson.com/?c=13&category=12
http://www.ebonyline.com/snb0331.html
5. dont color your hair right now...it make it dry and brittle and for some even intensive moisturizing can't stop this.
6. wrap your hair and stay away from heat as much as possible..
7. comb your hair from the bottom up to the top. Less will come out that way and it creates less tangles.
8. and lastly avoid using gel on you hair. Use LET's Jam! by soft sheen carson. it is smoother on the hair and also provides moisture. there is light medium and hard for differnt holds..gel makes the hair brittle and easy to snap off. http://www.softsheen-carson.com/?c=13&category=23
Hope i helped.

From my own experience:
1) don't overprocess it. If you relax it, do so only every 8-10 weeks.
2) don't lighten it. That strips our hair, dries it out and makes it more fragile.
3) don't use a lot of heat. Limit blow drying. (Let your hair air dry 80%, then use the dryer for the rest.) Limit hot curling and using flat irons.
4) don't use cold curlers. They pull our hair and add damage too.
5) Wrap your hair at nite. Just like it became accustomed to the heat; train it to be wrapped.
6) add moisture. Get a good, but gentle shampoo and conditioner. Use a lite oil for shine; nothing heavy or gunky. Don't grease your scalp, just lightly oil the hair.
7)drink water for moisture, too.
8) don't comb or brush it a lot. That's a myth and it only adds further damage.
I started doing this because my hair seemed to be thinning and was dry and breaking off. My hair was shoulder length. Now, 8 months later, it's grown about 3 inches, is definitely thicker, has no split ends and is beautiful. It's like it was when I was a kid.
Good luck!

My friend's mom is form Nigeria, and Nigerians tend to have thin hair which is also usually short. Her and all his sisters and aunts have no choice but to use exptensions. I can never tell, and they look gorgeous :-)
