I do have trouble going to sleep at night, but that's partially because I like to sleep in the morning when I can see some daylight. It makes me feel better and I'm used to this warped schedule (have been since school ended). Occasionally, although very infrequently, I'll sit up fully awake and my heart is beating very fast and I feel like I can't breathe. I'll walk out of the room and try and calm myself down. Like I said, this now happens VERY infrequently. In fact, I can't remember the last time this happened (maybe two or three weeks ago?). Anyways, I toss and turn a lot and it usually takes me an hour or two before I go to bed. I toss and turn A LOT and I feel very uncomfortable sleeping on my back and very comfortable on my stomach. I also have some back pains (tossing and turning?). I feel fatigued when I wake up (usually after oversleeping) and often times I don't want to wake up even if I realize I have overslept. Is this normal? Note: I also have anxiety / panic disorder.

It sounds like you are having anxiety attacks. Do you have a lot on your mind? Sleep apnea, I thought, is when you snore and sorta snort and stop breathing at times. In that case you aren't getting quality sleep even if you sleep 10 hours at a time. Of course the best thing is to see a doc. Probably a neurologist and they will probably have you undergo a sleep study. Boy, those are fun!

You may have insomia, not sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is when you stop breathing while sleeping because of a blockage in the airway passage. There are factors why people develop insomia. It could be because everyone sleeps late in their house, loneliness that results in watching TV for hours, bad eating habits, etc. Check with your doctor as he or she may help you diagnose the problem(s) and prescribe a solution for you.

I don't think that you have sleep apnea.. I just think that you need to get on a regular sleeping schedule, and not let yourself oversleep. You could also try to your doctor to get something to help you fall asleep easier. I think that a lot of your sleep problems are from your anxiety.

I think you are having an anxiety attack. it happens to me once in a while. i was told if you are worried about something, it comes on.
sleep apnea, which i think my husband has, when he sleeps, he stops breathing for a couple of seconds, then he moves a bit and resumes breathing. although he doesnt wake up during these episodes.
