I can see why many people think this but I can think of several reasons that it shouldn't.
Firstly, it doesnt appear to work as a deterent. Countries with the death penalty often have the same or even higher instances of murder than countries that don't, mainly because most cases are done in anger rather than pre meditated. I don't see any point to it if its only purpose is revenge, which I dont think is healthy.
Secondly, I don't think we have the right to kill other people. Surely that would make us as bad as the criminal?
Thirdly, there is room for error and if someone is proved innocent after they have been executed then an official pardon isn't really much compensation to them or their family. Also, it doesn't allow for any reformation which I think is a key factor in deciding punishments.
Fourthly, when hanging was legal, numerous executioners went mad because of the nature of their job. If capital punishment was brought back I think it should be in a form which takes away responsibility from any one person.
I think the reasons against hanging outweigh the reasons for, so I can't agree that hanging should be brought back.

No. An innocent person could still be hanged. Nobody has the right to take another persons life. It is against almost every religion and is part of article 3 in the universal declaration of human rights (the first link)
The death penalty link shows the Amnesty International page. It could get out of control. Death penalty is used in so many countries as an excuse for murder- it used to be used like that here. It could create more crimes instead of less. People should be given a chance to prove themselves innocent or to change instead of being hanged.
Everybody has the right to life and that should not be taken.

Should one be punished for criminal offense ?
The answer is obvious. So, the next logical question is what might be the punishment - is death of the them ? If yes, then hanging or electrocution or shooting is simply the means to accomplish the goal. Then we get to a more difficult question - o what extend must convict "suffer" in the process of dying ? I don't know the answer - if we want to make it easy, might as well provide an overdose of morphine, or put into the gas chamber full of carbon monoxide. If we need the death sentence to be more dramatic, then hanging is good consideration

Wish they would bring it back might deter some of the idiots going around and make them think twice before commiting the crime. I too would pull the lever

Absolutely, along with firing squads, etc. Personally I think that when we have eye witnesses, or positive evidence that a person has committed murder especially of a child such as the women who had drowned or burned or tortured their children should be executed in the same manner as they killed with and it should be done publicly. If society as well as criminals were allowed to see what to expect if they did these crimes capital punishment would actually work. If anyone thinks someone like Charles Manson or anyone of the hundreds of confessed butchers that have been given life sentences or are dying of old age on death row shouldn't have been executed immediately, then let them assume the cost of keeping them in prison not those of us who are disgusted with having to take care of the slime. They should get what they gave. DEATH.

Only if we rule out ANY doubt as to the persons guilt/innocence - too many people are still wrongly convicted of crimes and you can't bring them back years later when the police find the person that ACTUALLY did the offence.
All in all we just need to make prisons the way they used to be with no luxuries ! Many prisoners live better than everyday, law abiding people.

My instinct says yes for murder, rape and crimes against children of the kind we hear about more regularly now.
However I have serius misgivings owing to human error and those who have been killed by the state and found to be innocent.
I am from UK by the way and we have not had capital punishment since the 60s.
