As you've said, the brown-eyed gene is dominant, here, we'll say big B. The blue-eyed gene is recessive, here, we'll say small b. Because we have two, the combination can be BB, Bb, bB or bb. If there is a big B, then the person has brown eyes. Only if there is bb does the person have blue eyes. If both parents have both genes (bB or Bb), then the kids have a one in four chance of having blue eyes. Because your mother has blue eyes, she has bb, and your father has one of the others. Logically, he must have Bb or bB.

Because dominant genes don't determine how all children will look. The genetic code of an unborn child is basically a roll of the dice. Both parents may have brown eyes but also possess the recessive gene for blue eyes, and in that situation it is entirely possible that all children will be born blue-eyed. Dominant genes only matter if you inherit them.

It's all about genetics. Since brown eyes are dominant on your dad's side, I would have to say many of your ancestors had blue eye dominantcy too. Let's talk about my family for instance. My dad had brown eyes and my mother had hazel eyes. My 2 older sisters have brown eyes, but my brother and I have blue eyes. My mother's mom (my grandma) had blue eyes and her mother's mother (my great grandma) had blue eyes. My dad's mother had blue eyes and his grandma (my great grandma) had blue eyes and so did my dad's grandpa (my great grandpa).
So you see, when it comes to genetics, you don't always get the hair color or color of eyes or looks from your parents, it goes back much further.

It all depends, since genetics are a coin toss. My eyes are brown and my husband's blue, and my son's eyes are blue too. I'm the only brown haired brown eyed person in my household, even though my sister, dad and mom all have dark hair. Mom & sis have brown eyes, while dad has hazel

because both of your parents carry the blue gene. your mother has 2 blue genes, your father a blue and a brown. Because he has a brown gene, his eyes are brown. but your siblings probably got 2 blue genes, one from your father, one from your mother. thus, blue eyes.
