i have a male mini dachshund.. honestly..its sounds like he's bored.

a lost of times when pups or adult dogs are bored..they "self destruct!"
dachshunds are "earth dogs" they LOVE to dig....try buying a cheap plastic toy sand box from wal-mart or target. fill it will sand AND bury treats and toys. it will entertain him and help with his boredom.
and all the ppl with the "this dog is stupid responses...shut up..the only one that is stupid is THEM for not taking the time to understand that dogs are NOT humans and will not act as such! *ROLLS EYES at "stupid humans" that think they are more evolved that dogs.

My mini daschund does the same thing, and the vet told me that they have very dry skin, my dog actually got dandruff. They told me to use a dog shampoo on him that maybe had oatmeal or something like that in it that would sooth his skin. But just to be on the safe side, next time you take him into the vet ask.

That's a cute picture, but I do understand your concern. Mention it to your vet, because there might just be something, unseen to you, that is bothering him. Like a joint problem, for instance. It wouldn't hurt to have it checked.

Either that, or he's just being a puppy who's totally mystified by his rear end. I've seen many of them like that, and it's usually pretty comical. It's like it's a seperate entity to them. Most of them grow out of it after a time.

Not to make light of the concern, of course. Call the vet and ask them what they think...

Maybe he has fleas? Try advantage flea and tick, but be sure he is old enough for it. Ask the pet store, or vet before you purchase. Maybe he has an iritation from fleas, or some sort of ant bite? Take him to the vet if this persists.

I have learned these dogs are pretty stupid at times. I have a 1 year old female and she just isnt right. He's just a puppy, he's hyper active, he will soon stop. Mine use to chase her tail.

fleas, or a nervous problem, take him to the vet, they will probably insist that you get this spray stuff, you put it on them when they do this, and it repels them, its not harmful and it will just make them not touch it cause they way it taste! good luck
