Because you are constantly thinking about it.... Do some things just for you....go for a walk, get a massage.....even smiling makes you feel better, even when you don't.....

Imagine that our emotional psyche is like a flat layer of play-dough. Something rolls onto the playdough (this represents an event or issue that needs to be dealt with before we resume our playing.) It should be dealt with and removed but most of us unfortunately press it down into the play-dough. We supress it. This causes a "Depression" in the playdough (our psyche). It will always be there unless we look back and figure out what it was that we suppressed. Find the issue that should have been dealt with then and deal with it now. It may take a professional counselor to help with this.
Anti-deprssants only deal with the chemicals in our bodies that are produced BECAUSE of the depression. Chemicals DON'T cause depression: Depression causes the chemicals. Drugs only mask the problem and make life somewhat barable. But if you don't find and deal with the issue that was supresses you are destined to a life on these drugs.

Depression as far as I know has two main causes, enviromental, meaning stress, bad personal image, not getting enough sunlight, (seriously) poor sleeping habits, etc
or Biological, meaning a chemical imbalance,
Try listening to some uplifting music, (even if you can't stand it)
getting outside more, and try to get around people a little more often. Also get at least a few minutes of direct sunlight every day, and if possible reduce the time your under florescent lights.
If this doen's change things or if things get worse, ask your Doc. about a blood test that measures things like dopamine levels and such.
Prayer wouldn't hurt much either
Good Luck and God Bless

I could not be a counselor because I have no good advice for people like you.

I suppose depression must be real to some people, but I fail to see how it could be.

There are to many good things to live for and to many people that love you, like your mother, father, sisters, brothers. Now if you can not see the love emulating from your parents, grandparents, maybe you should be depressed, but I am willing to bet that all the people above love you very much.

If you stopped feeling sorry for yourself, love the family members that love you, I am sure that things would be better in you life and the things you think you are depressed about will cease to exist.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

You should be able to figure that out by what is going on in your life. If you don't try to handle the depression, it will only get worse. If you can do something about whatever is bothering you and it is within your control change it, then do so. If it is something that is out of your control to mange or change, then you must accept it and start a new plan from there. You must get it out of your mind and you must take steps to go on with your life. It is very difficult to do sometimes, but you have to force yourself to get interested and active in something good for you. If you are depressed and don't know why, then for sure go see a physician. In either case, it wouldn't hurt to see a physician and maybe you are.

To start this is a question only you can answer. How long have you had this feeling? Think back to the start of the depression to note if any changes occurred in your life at that time. Also, it seems to me you need to seek professional help. I once was depressed over the lost of my son and late husband. What helped me was to focus on my family who was hear with me. It wasn't easy but it was worth it. I gained weight, always crying, short tempered, etc. During the depression I continued to work everyday. Read your bible daily; a good scripture is Isaiah 53rd chapter and the 5th verse. Also, stop thinking negative and think positive. Focus on the good things around you and how good God is to you. Remember Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. "JESUS LOVES YOU".

Keep a journal day to day on your thoughts. This should help you determine why you are depressed. Many individuals have offered very good advice here before I got a chance to read your question. But, the main thing is to try to do things differently and take actions on some of the good suggestions given to you.

If things don't get better after you try a little on your own, try to get to see a doctor. Tell the doctor what you feel, maybe even bring in your journal. The doctor may want to take blood tests to see if you are sick too.

I'm glad you are asking. It shows you want to get better.

Lots of good advice was given but if you are really ALWAYS depressed it may be something that needs to be treated. Talk to your physician. The problem may be more serious than a mood. I hope you get some help. As the ad says 'depression hurts'. It's not something to be flippant about.

It's all in the mind, dear! Know that it is not the situation or the people around you which maybe causing it but YOU! It's a matter of attitude.. Try changing the way you look at things… always stay at the bright side of life. Look at the opportunity in every difficulty –. Most of all and be grateful to Him for whatever may come your way. It is designed for your good; learn from it and grow as an individual! You can do it!

Sometimes it is so hard to find the good things in life. I know I've been there and in so many ways still am. Medication is an option and loving yourself is most important which is very hard for me to do. Look at the simple things in life and sometimes try to forget the major problems(at least for awhile) but never forget how you feel one day --LIFE IS WORTH IT! Let me give you an example-- One day I opened a van door and there was a copperhead in it. I shut the door and got a neighbor to kill it. My boyfriend said it was a good day cause the snake didnn't bite me. Good Luck and if all else feels go to some good chat rooms online or seek help from whomever you trust.
