As an atheist I believe it's not unethical, but it sure as hell is awkward. I used to visit a very religious family and I was terrified that they'd find out I thought their belief system was wacko. I used to have to lead prayers and stuff ... it sucked. Now I'm more forward about my lack of belief and I've learned to deal with the outright hypocrisy and bigotry of the average religious person. I find most people have never really thought about what it means to be an atheist and I enjoy showing them.
I say go to church, make contacts and join social circles, but don't lie about who you are or what your beliefs are. It'll come back to bite you faster than Moses put all animals on the Earth into that magic boat of his.

Unethical? No, why would it be. I could think of far better places to go if I wanted to socialize and meet people than a church though.

No. Socializing and making contact with good Christian people is much more likely to convert an atheist, than the other way around. For more, post your questions at www.askmeaboutgod.org and receive a free, private, complete, personalized answer via email in about one day. Doug

On the contrary... Actually, it may be the way God is calling you to come to him....
You could choose other groups to make contacts, but there may be other onsaid reasons...
It is difficult to be an atheis when everything points to a possible God....
And if it were so... would you not be missing knowing more about him...
Be free... be an atheis or a believer, if God wants you He will come and point to himself.....
I think that he is calling you to come and see.....
Simply go..........

I don't see why it would be. But I also don't understand why one would want to. I mean it has to be last place you're going to find people sympathetic to your views, which is something that's fairly important in a friendship.

Absolutely not... Go to church. Listen to the sermon while you are there. You may find more than what you went for.
