I gave him a nice watch for his E-4 promotion. I know I've got to go bigger, but I don't have a clue.

Let them really have no doult that we need good men staying in the service and what he does no matter what his rank is important, and as he moves up the job gets harder, and it takes one hell of a man to do what he is doing.
Write your senator or rep. tell them of his promotion and request a letter or something to fram for him to put on the wall thanking him for his service.
Make sure they know to write it by hand and not to type it.

I think Craig is headed in the right direction. Try to write to someone - or several people - who he respects and see if you can get a signed letter or photo to frame. It will be something that doesn't cost a lot, but the time and effort to get it will mean the world to him.
And you know us military guys ... we just absolutely LOVE our "love me" walls!! Tell him congrats from one grizzled old sergeant to a new one. :-)
EDIT: Dan H - Even though you posted the most offensive answer I have seen in a long time, know that we in the military still fight for your rights and your way of life. I have reported your answer as being grossly obscene, and I highly encourage everyone else to do the same.

If he likes golf, a couple of ping wedges would probably be nice. if you wanted to get him something military related, get him a nice knife and a comfortable pair of boots. I don't think there is a way to get rid of the dead children comment. What an ******.

Please allow me to add my congratulations, and good luck with the relationship. I would also like to apologize for the detractors chiming in here; while recognizing their right to free speech -- which I'm sure they would never attempt to defend (literally) on their own--, at least he has the option of ignoring it.
Does he plan to go career? If so, a something for his I-love-me wall would be treasured forever, and also challenge him further--get used to the idea that he'll have to work even harder now, for which I'd like to offer my sincere thanks. On a more personal level, it will be a neat trick to balance what he CAN wear in the field--you might ask around at the NCO Wives' Club.
Again, my congratulations. (P.S. you might remind him that you're still waiting for that SECOND ring....)

Have a picture of him blown up and put it on a t-shirt..for you to wear around when he is gone golfing and hockey playing!! He will appreciate the gesture, and you can start {downsizing} your gift expenses for the future!Wear it out to a favorite restaurant and buy him a steak dinner, also.

What is your relation to him?
What is your price range?
What are his interests?
What has he got you recently?
Perhaps just throwing a party would be nice.
