Would you consider that military is legal because militaries benefit those who make the laws?
In addition, militarys DO hit up businesses and such. Maybe not YOUR business, but if you value human beings as a whole, it matters not what the language or color or religion of the people that a military may harm. Militaries are not respectors of people. Militaries are killers of people. Today it is them, but very often, miltaries have been asked by the *ruler* or president of a nation to turn against their own, and they have. Militaries do not protect citizens anymore, they are contracted out by our government, whereas militaries used to be volunteering citizens, they are now paid killers.

When did I ever say I supported the troops? I don't. I don't want any harm to come to them, or the anyone else. I do not support what the troops are doing. I think it takes a lot more courage to stand up and say" I will not fight this war..I need an explanation immediately." It frightens me that members of our military will do whatever the commander says. With that mentality, another Hitler waits in the wing.

Boy, do I feel sorry for you. The ONLY reason you are allowed to spew such trash is because men and women have given their lives to protect your right to say so. They have given their lives to ensure the freedoms of hundreds of millions of people around the world. We dedicate our lives to our nation and the people who live in it.
Do you seriously want to know the main difference - other than the obvious? Members of the military volunteer mainly out of love, out of selfless service to millions of people they have never met. Members of gangs do so mainly for selfish reasons, for financial gain hurting the very people members of the military protect.
But I wouldn't expect you to understand. Somewhere along the line, your parents very obviously failed to teach you right from wrong. Your values have become so twisted and warped that you think members of the military are actually the bad guys.
Do people really think that the liberal agenda and mindset is harmless? Do you really expect us to believe that you "support our troops"?? Even after reading THIS question???
EDIT: sugasmaks23 - I was talking about liberals in general, not you in particular. But how very typically liberal of you to assume that everything anyone says is about you.
EDIT: Bob Barker - You are DEAD wrong about the military being predominantly white. The military led the nation is making everything truly equal for everybody regardless of race or skin color. The very fact that you get equal consideration REGARDLESS of race is one the very things that attracts minorities from all communities to the military. We all wear green, and we all bleed red ... that is the only important thing.

You talk about a volunteer military force. Maybe during the revolution, but that is the only time I can recollect it being so. Military units are usually paid. As far as your one sided opinion regarding our military force, I agree with the sarge, you have a right to spew this type of crap because of the freedom we give you. You want to see a big differance the military searches for ways to spare human life as much as possible, especially civilians. A better comparison would be between gangs and terrorist. They both survive using terror acts, and don't care if innocent people get killed. When was the last time you heard of a gang looking into what happened when they killed a little kid on the corner. They don't care.
Just in the nature of what each does is the major differance Military personal would rather not fight, but will do it to protect your freedoms. Gang members would rather kill you and take your money, then let you have the freedom to cross the street.
Further more if you have so many issues with the freedoms you have been given by are military the door swings both ways, go to Iran and question their government. Instead of using one of the many freedoms you are complaining about.

Okay, do us all a favor. If you're American, please leave. Really. If you're not, stay where you are.
MY husband is NOT a paid killer, thank you very much. He is a kind, intelligent, loving person who wanted to serve his country and make some money doing it.
The difference? If you really need to ask that question, then you must really know nothing. My husband doesn't go around killing people because they're from a different "set" than him. Our friends don't, either. Even in war, they only kill when it's a choice between that and being killed. Do you think that perhaps instead they should try to talk it out with the guy heading towards them with a bomb strapped to his chest? If that was the case, we would have no military, and then guess what. Maybe people like YOU would have to become "trained killers", heaven forbid.

Sugasmaks..true the Military is paid..but they volunteer to join they arent made..they join to protect the Constitution and the way of life we are use to...that is why I served...but honestly some people join onl for the GI bill, and get really upset now that they have to do their duty..and any service member who doesnt want to be there should have the right to say ..but also be dishonorably discharged and lose their GI Bill and VA mortgages..and ask for militia type volunteers, people who just want to support the country, defend the country from future attcks..I will gladly tak ethe spot of a non supporter and offered to go in 2003, but was told a back injury from the Coast Guard disqualified me... I served 4 years after the injury but wasnt allowed back in.
back to the real question..gangs fight for drug sales and crimes...not for peace, and general wellbeing of a nations people....and in the military you can question ordersthese days, you do not have to do immorale things, you tell me would you feel safer at a military meeting or a gang meeting

Okay 1st off if U don't like this country LEAVE!!!
I mean really unless you are in the military you have no freakin idea about how it works. Yes there are some things that people don't like about the military but there are positive things also. The news doesn't always show the positve thing people do. for example did it completely escape you that during Katrina it was the military risking their lives to save people yes National Guard and Reserves are considered military. If you were floating away in a stream somewhere I would let your ungrateful butt float on away and just "hope" you can swim. How dare you condem people that are just trying to make things right.
People complain about how bad the military is and don't know the half of what we do. And how we risk our lives to grant others the same freedoms we share. To help them keep order because they cannot afford to do it themselves.
If you feel the military is soo evil and wrong I suggest you leave this country that supports it's military and what they do and move to one that suites you.

The militant wing of Hamas kills innocent civilians all the time, INTENTIONALLY. Not all militaries are alike or are setup to benefit a democratic president/government.
And you say that militaries used to consist of volunteers, but now they are "paid" killers. Wow! Really? Can you name a period in history when this was true? Militaries have either been formed out of compensation for those who were drafted or volunteered, or centuries ago, would often consist of those who were forced into it (slaves, those who were conquered, etc).
Militaries call up arms to protect, defend, or attack another nation. The political reason can vary. However, this has nothing to do with a gang (I still feel silly answering this lame question), which bands together to commit crimes against the state for personal gain. In recent years, many countries abide by international law in the public forum of the U.N. when it comes to using their military. When was the last time you saw that a street gang was law-abiding?
If you are comparing the U.S. military to a gang, why don't you just say it?
*snicker, that still sounds so frickin retarded*

The term gang is usually a perjorative term, the term military usually isn't.
Arguments about legal, proper, honourable, official etc are circular. The SS were legal and official in terms of the third reich. American militias were illegal or treasonous according to the British. It's the old story, we're normative they are not. Gangs also justify themselves according to their own rules and take these rules as true.
Half way between the two is militia:
Here's wikipedia on militias
1. An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers ("good")
2. The national police forces in Russia, and other CIS countries, and the Soviet Union: Militsiya ("?" we don't like the commies)
3.The entire able-bodied population of a state, which can be called to arms against an invading enemy (true of American, - india, ireland, mexico- Iraq? Iran?)
4.A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government (hm? as above)

Military is legal and doesn't hit up people and businesses for protection or turn communities into drug dens. It is frowned on in the military to kill your superiors for advancement. Military doesn't kill people in the neighborhoods that speak out against them or want to testify against them. People are not afraid to walk the streets if there are roving military about.
I can't believe this question was even asked. Trying to compare our military to a street gang is just ludicrous.

The difference is that you feel safer knowing that military's not using drugs and that the statistics prove that the gang's are using drugs. You know the government is right to put the people not on drugs out there instead of the crack cocaine pot smoking drinking gang members. I think fright comes from illegal use of drug members waiving around guns.
