$600. She just got back on disability so she's ok now. BUT this idiot of a therapist told her that if she can't afford them that she should go to eastern meds.....ya know, herbs, blah, blah, blah........and now she says she doesn't feel well.......Well DUH! They aren't regulated by the FDA....that's why they aren't OTC. But she just doesn't *GET It." Her hubby made too much money (self employed and makes the buchs ya know?) than to be approved for free or low cost meds. It's ***** ***** ***** with her......she's never happy about anything and she is a full blown hyophondriac. No lie..............It's really sickening.Any words of advice would be of big help........I've known her for around 14 years and she is not about to change now but how about something for ME to cope with HER? That would be a big help. I'd appreciate any help. No sarcasm please!!!! Thanks much.

Her husband is self employed and doesn't have insurance. Also, SHE can't have medicare (which doesn't cover meds unless she's on SSI to for 2 yrs. That will get her MEDICAL paid for but no rx's thanks to George Bush and the National Health Plan.....the basta*d! I am on disability myself so I know a LITTLE about what is going on....but it's so complicated, I just sit and wait for my reviews........of which I'm up for right now as well.

As several of the posters have noted, if her husband makes enough money, why can’t be covered under a private insurance plan? Having to spend her and her husband’s own money for health care might help cure her hypochondria. A good site for discount drug programs and support for specific illnesses is Needy Meds (link below). I also like Mood Garden (link below), which is a community site for people suffering from depression and bipolar disorder. Also, the National Alliance for Mental Illness (link below) has chapters in every state and is a wonderful resource for people struggling with mental illness.

As for you, I feel for you having to listen to a close friend constantly complain about illusory problems. When I was down a few years ago, in one of my moments of clarity, I thought it would be funny if my friends carried around a picture of a truly awful event or of someone who had really had a tough life. When I started whining, I thought it would be helpful if they just pressed the photo to my forehead and shut me up. Unfortunately, they were too nice to do that, and their kindness helped me out a lot. Maybe your friend will come around.

If she wants to find out about the local health insurance market, send her to MostChoice.com. It provides quick access to locally licensed health insurance agents who could answer her questions in a few minutes. Even if she doesn’t buy any insurance, at least she would have a good idea of what to expect from private insurance options.

You can find MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insurance.cfm

Hope this helps,

Sometimes you can write the pharmaceutical company's along with a letter from her Dr. requesting assistance with medication. The sad thing about mental illness is they don't like to admit they need help by way of medication. For every action there is a reaction. Give her advice assist if needed in contacting company's and if she doesn't comply then her actions will cause negative reactions and it will be out of your control. You will have to be satisfied that you did your best with the knowledge you have. Good luck

If her husband works and makes too much money, WHY then doesn't she have health insurance???

She sounds just like my MOTHER!!! Hypochondriac, has every disease known to mankind and others not even invented yet!!! LOL

What my sister, father & I have done is to IGNORE her when she starts in on her AILMENTS. Changing the subject. Sooner or later SHE gets that we DON'T want to HEAR about her PROBLEMS!!!!
