Our 16 week old kitten has a terrible odor coming from her rectum. We can't hold her without it stinking up our clothes. It's that bad! It's not feces. Anyone know? Her food? Parasites?

Please don't answer if you just have a smart elec comment.

Thanks.

She has had some gas problems too. I have been mixing Kitten Chow with Cat Chow because I have 2 other cats. Maybe I should just let them all eat Kitten Chow.

We have an appointment for her 2nd deworming Friday, but I think we will go tomorrow.

It could be anal glands that need to be expressed, I'd call your vet

I could be worms or parasites but it could also be that she's just a kitten. When I got my cat from the Animal Shelter he had been dewormed (he was a kitten) but he was STINKY!!!! His poop was really stinky too! He's not stinky anymore. Changing their food abruptly can make them get diarrhea and such and sometimes if they have a food allergy they can get stinky. But unless you notice that he eats and eats and eats and stays really skinny (which would mean he has worms---or if you see a worm) it is probably just that he is a stinky kitten. If he is a really little kitten he will smell because he was just recently eating milk all the time. One other thing could be his anal glands. My dog has problems with hers (as do many dogs) where she doesn't express them naturally when she poops and they get really full and stinky and leak fluid. The fluid smells really acidic and almost fishy. But I've never heard of a cat having this problem, I suppose it's possible.

well i think you should have her checked by a vet its probly worms or the wrong food. i had a cat once that did that and come to find out it was from her moist food. if your feed it soft food stop and switch to dry. and dont switch it around a lot it will mess with there digestive tracts and give them diarea, yes and gas. sorry but its true. and the smell also might not even be from the kittens rectum it could be comeing from its skin and if so you really need to get her to the vet she may be dyeing. (had a dog that died from the inside out she smelt bad for weeks before she finaly died even after baths.) get the baby to a vet.

It's probably worms or something like that. But definately take her to a vet soon just to make sure it's that and not something deathly. You should also get her wormed if she's not already.
