Study the lives of Jesus, his mother Mary, the prophets and the apostles, and you'll see people who put God's will ahead of their own, even to the point of death. The relatively short amount of time we spend doing God's will in the here and now, prepares us for the next life, where we are assured by God of receiving unimaginable rewards. Once someone begins to indulge in pleasures of the flesh, it soon becomes an ingrained habit, which is extremely hard to eliminate, much like taking addictive drugs. The key is not to start. Once you start, the only solution is usually to avoid sexual stimulation, find something else to do with your free time, or change your daily routine. Take up golf. Pray. Play bridge. Get married. You get the idea. How long? Not long enough. For more, post your questions at www.askmeaboutgod.org and receive a free, private, complete, personalized answer via email in about one day. Doug

Denying oneself goes far beyond what is in your mind/conception

As per Hindu philosophy there are various methods of realising oneself.
You can live a KINGLY LIFE ENJOY THE WORLD TO YOUR BEST and ULTIMATELY WHEN YOU BECOME OLD SOME WISDOM DAWNS ON YOU That is one way.
The other is live in this world work is worship do your duty dont worry about rewards and you reach eternity
The other is live in this world offer your prayers always and help others do service to society and chant my name
The other is renounce everything go to forest and live a life of seclusion and try to realise the truths about this life.

As an ordinary person enjoy life within your means and learn to live with all obstacles and challenges and take it sportivelym, the ups and downs of the life and learn to forego your comforts right from food, bodily pleasures and dress and bed etc make your body tough to withstand any kind of natures fury even.

So you see the variety of practices and how it encompasses more pleasures in life than what you visualise.

Since the beginning of time Man has sacrificed. He sacrificed people, and then animals, and then wine and fruit. See Will Durant "The History of Civilization vol 1". Man's sacrifice was for a future crop, help against enemies, the health of a nation.
Decisions that we make are similar in that we choose one girl over an other, one job over an other. When we sacrifice we are preparing for the future. Choosing to masturbate may affect your future if you get caught. Other wise it really doesn't matter!
Other chooses like saving money for the future does matter.

I am not religious, I am spiritual. Spirituality is about embracing yourself and that you are like God. About realizing I am not just created, I am the creator. About giving myself everything I desire because God wants to experience life through me.

But, to each there own.

I think it has been less than 24 hours.
