If so, how is it dealt with?

It is called a heat in a dog. The female is in heat for an average of 21 days (she will bleed for about 7 to 10 of those days)
During this entire time you will really need to make sure she is separate from any males. And trust me, it will be difficult. What she cant climb, dig or crawl out of, the male can manage to get in or over.
I never had any luck with the little pads that you can buy for the female. For me, an old blanket or sheet worked out much better, you will just have to change it every other day, and restrict her to a smaller area......off the furniture and carpet.
That is the main reason I don't allow my dogs on the furniture, it alleviates the problem of keeping them off the furniture in the future.

It is not called menstration in dogs, but rather being in heat.
This lasts about 3 weeks and can start as early as 6 months old.
I am not sure what you mean by how can it be dealt with.
If you do not want to breed your dog then you need to have her spayed, this removes the reproduction organs, thus she can never become pregnant and will not come into heat.

If you do not have her spayed then you will need to keep her away from male dogs during her heat cycle. This means keeping her in a fenced area, or in the house at all times.
And away from any and all male dogs.

If you decide not to have her spayed then you can find doggy panties to help with keeping her and your furniture from getting blood everywhere.
But you will have to be diligent in keeping her away from any and all males. Unless you want a pregnant dog.

It's called "heat" in dogs. It can vary from a barely noticeable drip to a total mess. I've seen it both ways and everywhere inbetween. They do make doggie diapers for this, though if you have a pull-up diaper from a human child and some suspenders, they might work, too. (Bulldogs have the shoulders for it, other breeds may not...)

Otherwise, get your dog spayed. That's always the best solution.

They do. It's called being "in heat" or "in season." You can get special sanitary pads for your dog at a local pet store. They're like washable diapers with a tail-hole in them.
