blepharospasm (from blepharo (eyelid) and spasm (uncontrolled muscle contraction)) is any abnormal tic or twitch of the eyelid. However, it is normally distinguished from less serious disorders and refers to Benign Essential Blepharospasm, a focal dystonia (a neurological movement disorder involving involuntary and sustained muscle contractions) of the muscles around the eyes. The cause can be caffeine, fatigue, or a possible irritant. Symptoms usually last for a few days then go away without treatment, but in some cases may be chronic and persistant.

I think that is a wonderful question because my eye twitches all the time. Mainly around the winter months. I've always wondered that myself. I too have heard that it is caused by low potassium. I try eating bananas whenever my eye twitches. It don't help much, but I have hope. Good luck!

you may have low magnezium levels and that causes twitching and cramping in muscles , your eyelid twitching is an early indicator of this and you can get magnezium from green vegetables and other food as well as from supliments.
