aka born again christians? well i need help, my grandma thinks some really wierd things about how u get to heaven. like she thinks that yes u do have to ask the lord to forgive u but she also thinks that after that u have to be good. like once u sin u are not going to heaven unless you ask him to forgive u again? so how can i tell her that once u have Jesus in your life u are saved. there is no turning back even though u can still act like u don't have hi.. she reads the same Bible that we do. so are there any verses that i could show her. please help i don't know how to help her. she has her own thing going on here. i think that she got bits and pieces of different religions and took what she liked and left what she didn't like and made her own. she believes some other things that i won't go into detail about but could u give me any pointers on how i can tell her with some verse. if u could thank you. thanks to any one that took the time to read this and put an answer,

IF. she is saved. Baptists use Heb 10:38 once saved always saved". I personally don't agree with this. but, whatever.

Have her show you specifically, where a sin, makes you go to hell.

She can't do it.

Good Luck.

Well, I was raised in a southern Baptist church, but I'm more of a non-denominational guy now. Anyway, to answer your question... I have the same beliefs as you do. When Jesus is your Savior, you don't have to worry about a thing - you're destined for heaven.

Living a good life isn't a *requirement* for getting into heaven, but it should happen naturally (to a certain extent) to those who seek first His face. Just look at the fruits of the spirit:

Galations 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

That means that once the Spirit is a part of you, so those traits become a part of you. You should have strong convictions about good and evil; right and wrong.

Salvation isn't something that goes away every time we sin. If that were the case, even the holiest of Christians would be in line to go to hell 95% of the time. Repentence is something we do not only to enrich our own lives, but to praise God for his grace and mercy.

I hope this helps.

Most Christian churches do think the way she does. Always repenting.

You know what repent means - to change your mind.

Anyway, sounds like she is set in her ways. Do you understand how the law was abolished - fulfilled? That sacrafice was for ALL sin for everybody in the whole world?

Adam imputed sin to all, Jesus imputed grace to all.( I think that is in Romans)

Do you see how Jesus made belief in Him a law before he died for it?

Our choices and actions were left out of the New Covenant. The deal was made between two unmovable forces. That wouldn't be any of us.

That is why we are referred to as the bride. Check out what choices the bride had in a Jewish wedding. Nothing. The father and son got to decide.

I don't remember verses. Romans I think has the ' all were found guilty under law so all could have mercy under grace"

The bible is difficult - the apostles and Paul did not agree on teachings. They craved the law, Paul knew Jesus was only grace and peace. But I guess the apostles were taught under the OT and Paul under the NT

Good luck. http://gospelrevolution.com This guy has been researching the whole 'gotta be good' thing for umpteen years.

The problem is that over the past 35 years, southern baptists and pentecostals have changed their church doctrines, Old time baptists believe that you have to ask for forgiveness every day, just like catholics and anglicans do, while modern baptists believe that once saved always saved. personally, I think its a copout just to get bodies in the seats, and dollars in the collection plate. After all, religion is a big business to these prachers, they will tell you whatever it takes to get you to sign up.

Ephesians chapter2 Verse 8"For by grace are ye saved through faith ;and that not of yourselves it is the gift of god"..............God only saves you once cause thats all it takes. He does it right the first time. All peolpe will have to be judged when they get to heaven on every single sin they commited ,but by praying and askin god to save your soul when he saves you that is his promise to you that you are covered and will go to heaven .That dont mean you still shouldnt ask for forgivness regularly but it dont mean that you wont go to heaven because of a sin though.Make sure your grandma knows all sins are equal.Right now i think all you can do for her is to pray and invite her to church.Good luck and remember always keep your faith and stay close to God!

Its true that once you accept Christ He will never leave you or forsake you...but we are sinful. God knows that just because we accept Him as our Savior, doesn't mean we will never sin again. Jesus' blood is enough to cover all of our sins. After we accept Him we are to have a new life..which means we are to try to live a holy life...thank God He knows this is impossible for us and He gave us His Son. That doesn't mean we are covered and can sin all we want like a no limit credit card. I like Galatians 2:20..."I am crucified in Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.".. also Gal 2:16

There's no need to fear. Cal Jennings is here! :D

Well, I was a Southern Baptist who got so stuck in the "rules" of the "church" that I nearly got stuck in the foundation when it dried and cracked. Rules are ok for getting "grounded," but once you have accepted the gift of the Holy Ghost, you will realize that the Word of God is written on your heart.

If you get stuck in the rules, and are bent on quoting chapters and verses, you will get stuck in the foundation, and will not grow to build your "Spiritual House" that will protect you from the coming storms.
