First vet bill is usually around $35, but you could pay more. I'd call around to the vets closet to you to ask for prices.

Every area is different, of course, but I can give you an idea. The first visit is usually about $30-$35 for the exam. Checking a stool sample for worms and intestinal parasites is about another $12.00. The first distemper and parvo vaccinations will run approximately $20.00. Now most vets should also ask if you're interested in flea prevention and heart-worm protection, too, which of course, costs a bit more.

After the first puppy shots, you'll go back in about a month for the next round of DMP & Parvo. The following month will be the Galaxy 6 (adult distemper), and Corona vaccinations. After that will come the G6, Rabies and Lyme 1 vaccs. The following month will be your last "puppy visit" and should include the final adult distemper, the Intratrac/Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and the Lyme booster. At about six months of age, you'll want to look into spaying/neutering, and then your pup will be good to go until the following year.

*Please note that all veterinarians are different, but distemper & rabies vaccs are approximately $10.00 a piece (usually), the Kennel Cough is about $11.00, and the Lyme vacc usually runs about $18.00 each. Again, it all depends on what area you're in, so it would be wise to call around to get pricing, but also ask around. You don't want to go to a vet with a bad reputation, because your puppy's health and welfare are a lot more important than the bottom dollar!

Good luck, and congratulations!

This would depend on where you live. I would suggest calling around in your area to get prices. Also if considering purchasing puppy, ask the breeder, if the pup has been wormed and how many times, and if they started the pup on vaccinations. This will determine if you need a series of vaccinations or just one or two. Thus reducing the cost.

Personally I do not have my dog checked for worms as I worm my dogs myself regularly about every 3 months. I use one that covers all kinds including tapes.

Be sure to vaccinate for heartworm, if puppy is less than 6 months old a prior blood test is not needed to check for them. You will then need to purchase heartworm medicine from your vet as it is a controlled substance and can only be gotten by prescription from a vet.
You will also need to have it vaccinated for rabies usually around 6 months of age. Cost on this can vary, some states have programs in the spring where you can take your dog in for this shot at a reduced rate. So check this out.

I just bought a chihuahua three weeks ago. Your first trip to the vet is probably going to be between $50 and $80. The ones in my area were all preety much priced the same but I was able to find a coupon in the phone book for a first time visit. Then of course after the initial visit you will have to go back once after about 3 weeks and once after about 6 weeks for his parvo shots which run right around $20

Depends on how thourough an exam you want to have, a basic check up runs about $35.. but if you have any type of blood test or stool samples done it can raise your bill 20-55, and if you have shots and worming done you are looking at another $30
