My boyfriend is 18 and I'm 14, is that decent? We have been best friends for over five years, and just now decided to take that leap in our relationship. My mother is fine with it, his mother is a little..."concerned". There are a lot of people around us who don't think that our age difference is appropriate, what do you think? I must also add that I am intellectually "gifted", so he and I are in the same grade (we're Seniors in High School), so we've always thought the difference just fine.

A 14 year old can't date. Age is not just a number, its a reality.

You are just a child, a young one.

He is legally a man. There is nothing a 14 year old child has for an 18 year old young man except a reason to go to jail.

I don't believe your mother is fine with it if you told her that you wanted to "date" him.

The 4 year age gap difference becomes OK when you turn 18 and he is 22.

Best wishes, and enjoy being a child while you still are.

And please watch out for advice from 15 year olds telling you how fine it is. They have not the experience to speak on this.

Well well well we have a really smart one!!! LOL JK Well actually the age difference isnt bad that is only 4 years and that in the long run isnt very much my aunt and uncle are 6 years apart but the point is if you love/like him there shouldn't be a problem. His mother and the other people will get over it in time and I must say I am 16 and not even a senior I'll be a senior when I'm 17!!!!! You really are smart!!!!!!! Sorry just had to say that

i imagine that it is not a foul age hollow. That being pronounced, there are a great number of aspects that would nicely be influencing their decision. My concerns as a ascertain will be what he does for a residing, if he has a strong popularity, how he delivers himself, etc... If I approved of those features, i'd enable my 16 12 months previous daughter date someone who's 18. even as i became 16, i became a junior in extreme college and had a boyfriend who became an 18 12 months previous senior. As a ascertain, i'd approve of an age large difference of better than 2 years by utilizing default.

If you're intellectually "gifted," then you probably need to date someone older. Guys your age probably seem very young in comparison. I thought it was a wide gap in age at first, but then it made sense. Plus, you don't type like any 14 year old I've read from on here. I'm not saying you can identify a person's maturity level that way, but you seem to be thinking straight.

If your parents are ok with it then I don't see a problem. I could see where you age difference might be a bit much - since he is an adult and you are considered a child. The fact you are a senior and 14 shows you are very smart, and that you have a higher level of maturity - however, that doesn't mean you have the same life experience as him.

I think its totally okay, when I was 14 i dated a guy 4 years older then me and we where together for 3 years, but hopefully u turn 15 soon cuz anyone walking down the street seeing the two of u together could call the cops and have him charged with rape, so my advice to you is keep things on the down just till your bday. Once you get older age dosent really matter, there is 11 years between my bf and I, he is 33 and I'm 22. Just tell people who see a prob w/ it that age... just a #, its what ya got upstairs that counts.

The law for statutory rape gives a nod at an age difference of 5 years...some states may differ.

When I was 18 my neighbor, whome I dated - was 15. We had an absolutely wonderful time. There were eybrows raised; but it all changed once I graduated. People forgot me...

My advice is, don't make it a big, public exhibition and most people won't say a thing.

Enjoy what you have and make great memories...

As long as you are fine with it, & your parents are alright with it, it shouldn't matter what other people think. If your relationship lasts 10 years, you'll be 24 & he'll be 28. I bet a lot of your friends who will be 24 at that time will be dating men as old as or older than him. Since his mother is concerned, I would try to show her she has nothing to worry about, & be responsible. You never mentioned the fathers. How are they handling this? If your father is in the picture, it is very important he be alright with it, too, or he may try to file statutory rape charges on your boyfriend, even if you two aren't sexually active. Fathers tend to be a little protective of their daughters, you know? As for your boyfriend's father, I would bet he is having an easier time with this than his mother if his father is in the scenario. He'll probably just be glad his son is dating someone with a goodhead on her shoulders who might not screw up his son's life. Best of luck, & don't worry about what your classmates think. Chances are you won't see many of them again after graduation.

Girla are more mature than boys when they are peers but a much younger girl with a guy is an appropriate match because they are at the same level of maturity..so i think the difference is just fine...but 14?..anyway just keep going on....
