I concentrate on my breathing, blocking out all thoughts except "breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out" ... it's the blocking of other thoughts that helps bring on sleep, as well as the steady brething rhythmn.

I stop thinking. If you keep thinking you will stay awake.

There are only a few things that won't let me sleep:
1) Taking a nap during the day.
2) Being too excited about something I'll do tomorrow.
3) Being hungry.
4) Doing something bad to someone that day.

I guess I'm very lucky because it only take me about 30 seconds to get to sleep (no time to count sheep).

I visualize my memory like a chalkboard, and erase everything, or paint over my thoughts with black paint. Although sometimes a thought may come back, I paint over it and breathe slowly. Starting at my feet, I relax them first, then move up. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Usually by the time I get to my middle, I'm so bored it makes me tired!

The key is NOT to think. Drink warm milk, take a warm bath, burn some lavender candles or smooth on some lavender lotion, then sleep. No thinking.

Think about being in a spa, getting a massage. Imagine a quiet, candlelit atmosphere. Breathe slowly and relax.

I think about how sleepy I will be at work, and remember how much I needed it the last time. I just imagine that I'm on break, taking a quick nap, and I'm out.

I count back from 100 also....and I heard from some doctor or something that you should imagine the numbers in your head in the color gold. ::shrug:: apparently its calming. If you get down to zero...start over, eventually you will bore yourself to sleep.

I count backward from 100! If that doesn't work, I start to list all of the people and things I am grateful for in my life. It sounds corny but I do it! haha
