I would have to choose Christianity (well, because I did)... but here's why:
Every other religion out there is all about "DO" --- what to "do" how to "do" when to "do" and if you "do" enough then maybe you get to the hereafter (heaven, enlightenment, reincarnated, whatever).
Christianity--true Christianity--has nothing to do with "DO" -- it's all about "DONE" ... there is nothing that I can "do" that would match what Christ has already "done" and what he has done is sufficient.
That's the difference.

I am a free-thinker so i did choose my religion. Well not religion but a belief. Lets see.... I was born Baptist, somewhat raised LDS. back and forth with other Christian churches .... my parents ???? Anyway..... I have picked NONE of these. and feel great! I know I am loved and I do not have that guilt I had as a child..... I AM PAGAN. And I'm happier now than i have ever been. My husband and I,,and my children are very happy...... my parents were always fighting about religions..... But everyone around us thought they were perfect Christians.... always bothered me.....

if i was a true free thinker i would have a look at what all the religions have in there history and what they are doing for the REAL issues that we face today. then i would probly decide that i could only accept a bit of them all and try and find my own god in a way that would make me feel i was on the right path and not just following what has gone before and failed.

No one religion is "THE RIGHT ONE". If you believe in God and his word it doesn't matter if you are Catholic, protestant or Jewish, The Lord is central to all of these.
Only "man" makes a big deal out of this and it is so lame. This is what the whole Iraq thing is all about and see where that has gotten these "free thinkers" for over 2 centruies!!! We think too much and pray too little.

I've looked at many different religions. I would still choose the one I'm at now, Roman Catholicism. It doesn't slam a Bible in your face every two seconds, it does not use the so called "scare tactic", and it emphasizes kindness and compassion towards others, rather than the "save your soul" attitude (I'm not trying to convert anyone, just stating why I stuck with it).
If I HAD to chose another religion (for the sake of argument), I would choose Buddhism. They share most of my core beliefs.

Buddhism because they encourage you to think for yourself and find your own answers, it doesn't have to be the one true, its all about seeking truth. I am also attracted to many elements of Hinduism, its very spiritual and there are options but I don't believe in the mythology at all.
I also like the old orthodox rites in the christian church like the coptics and greek orthodox and the traditional latin mass of the catholic church because its really pretty and sort of gives you a connected feel to your basic humanity. I've gone to those services before and thought wow, this is really spiritual. Kinda makes me wish I could buy into all that crazy stuff they believe in so I could go back.
I think as long as your religion doesn't say stuff like "everybody besides us is going to hell" you have a shot at being in the right place. You could also look for stuff that stands the test of time (like all I mentioned) but that doesn't mean everything. Hinduism is the oldest and we all know that stuff isn't true. Also look for the religion that lacks "alterior motives." And let me know when you find it.

I believe one who is a "free thinker" is not bound by any organized religion. A free thinker decides for him or herself, rather than subscribing to the preconceived notions/beliefs of any one particular faith.

To use my Quaker ancestry's modus operandi, I think that there is an Inner Light that either leads us toward or away from God. There's an eternal war going on inside the souls of humanity. After 25 years of seeking, searching, thinking and overthinking, I chose my path, the simplest one of all. Just letting go and letting God take control of my life.
