Cable TV is more reliable and usually has better customer service. There's also less equipment and hooking up to do. Usually satellite companies give you free gifts for getting satellite while cable companies may not. It's easier to combine the cable bill with bills of telephone, internet, and other household services. With satellite you can get different feeds of local channels and perhaps some non American channels. The weather affects it and sometimes signal is lost for no reason. Which costs more depends on which plan you get.

I've had both, and I much prefer cable. The cost is about the same, but we got a deal where we get about twice as many channels as we had before, plus Encore and HBO free. Also, we have Comcast, so we get tons of On Demand movies for free too. Satellite just became a major pain equipment -wise. Something was always breaking and we'd have to wait days with no tv while we awaited the arrival of replacement boxes, etc. The picture always went in bad weather too.

In general Sat tv will give you more for your $.
If you can catch a "promo" deal from cable or sat. you will save money, but you may have to ask for it.
Some cable co.s pay the employee based on the service thay set you up for, so push for the best deal.
