Somewhere not too far from U of T is good; and the houses that are not too expensive. Thanks!

Toronto is a very safe city. The crime rate is very low for a large city like Toronto. You will be safe in most parts of the city. Just don't live in Scarborough. Its rough and crime-ridden.

Maybe hollitespeed has the best answer. Accommodation is very expensive !!!!!!!!!! Rosedale is one of the most expensive area !

it is very difficult to say because the subway system is kind (sorry Canadians !) of underdevelopped compared to other major cities. Very few stations and very far in between. It is a headache for most people.

Somebody mentioned Scarborough.......well the "parts" of Toronto are pretty large and you find good and bad everywhere.Parts of Scarborough are very charming and very safe whilst others are a bit scary..

I'm in North York where you find the most prosperous areas as well as the most run down areas...

I would avoid Jane/Finch.......although it does look very clean and very proper during the day time......well....at night things are different.

People rush to presomptions very quickly......mention Avenue Road......sure ! Lots of very wealthy people live there but driving down the road you see some real dumps as well....

You just cannot have both in TO. And it is so widespread !!

I'd look around Eglinton.......pretty close....with both good and bad areas.

Contacting an estate agent (don't want to give advertisement I think it is against the Community Guidelines.....I am not btw) is the best way.

Are you renting or buying? If renting, try Riverdale, east of Broadview, south of Danforth, west of Pape, north of Queen. There are three streetcar lines that take you downtown and also provide easy access to the subway. This neighbourhood has a mix of people in terms of families, singles, and different ages. It's very safe and there are a lot of rental units (in houses).

If you're looking to buy, housing is becoming very expensive. The only place that is still a bargain and up and coming is the area east of where I described and west of the Beaches (Woodbine). It's safe, but feels a bit gritty around the edges.

Check out Toronto East, E1 and E2 areas in the MLS.ca website of houses for sale.

Rosedale is great but VERY expensive.

Toronto is a safe city. The area called The Annex is close to U of T. Prices are up but I hope you get lucky finding something you'll enjoy. You'll love Toronto!

I live in High Park, my roommate goes to U of T. Not a problem getting there via TTC. It all depends if you want to live more in the centre of the action closer to the downtown core, or further away.
Off of Roncesvalles between High Park is nice, although I'm not sure if it is mostly rental properties or not.
