Don't most religions teach that you live forever in heaven?

That is what i don't understand, why people think they are going to heaven? It clearly says in the bible their will be a new heaven and a new earth, why would we need a earth if everyone is going to heaven, only Jesus and a 144,000 are the ones who are going to reign in heaven and the rest of them here on earth.i don't know why a lot of religions preach and teach that,it just shows how it has just mislead a lot of people.

A careful reading of Revelation 20 and 21, which deals with the millennium, shows that the righteous will be in heaven for 1000 years, and then they along with the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven, the wicked will all be raised, judged, and punished, and then the earth will be made new. There, the righteous will live forever.

So, Jesus in Matthew 5:5 is saying that those who are meek, and that does not mean ones who allow people to walk all over them all the time, will be those who live on the new earth--or to put it another way, they will be the righteous ones.

Just that. Meek does NOT mean weakness. A meek person knows wherein lies their strength.

One of the above answers states that the righteous believers will be in heaven 1000 years, but the Bible states that when the New Jerusalem and GOD Himself comes down, there will be a new heaven and new earth
AFTER the thousand year reign of Christ and the raptured Bride have reigned HERE on this earth.

Jesus was the meekest person on earth and HE definitely was not weak!

People who do not "brag" about themselves. People who are highly intelligent but say not. People who care not for money and material things and realize that you cannot take any of that with you when you leave the earth. The only thing you take is the memories of love and compassion you had for others. The world will come to a higher sense of enlightenment eventually but maybe not before mother nature brings forth her displeasure of the way it is being treated with atomic waste and pollutants. The Christans are right when they know how the world will eventually be cleansed but not just good or bad, it will be both because all people are treated the same on the other side. I fear that we are going to have some rough times ahead. But to see the forest past the trees is to see a much better world to live in after that.

He meant that those who were not too proud to turn away from the religious traditions of men and who would put their trust in a lowly carpenter's son from the hick town of Galilee would inherit the new earth to come.

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Meekness is the attitude of heart and mind and life that prepares the way for sanctification. 1 Peter 3:4 says a meek spirit is in the sight of God of great price. This is in contrast with the current world, where the proud tend to run things. Think of the manner of Satan. His fall originated in his pride.

St. Augustine defines the meek as those who, "despite all of there good deeds, all of their honors, they (the meek) desire nothing but God. And despite all of the suffering this world brings upon us, God is still never displeasing."

When Jesus said that the meek shall inherit the earth He meant that those who become humble before Him and serve Him in mind, body and soul will conquer the world and it's temptations. Fearing nothing but God.

God exaults the meek and the humble, and through his grace, brings them to perfection. Possession of the land (earth) is equivalent to being saved, and it has always been one of God's most basic and most fundamental promises to all his faithful. Those who meekly put their faith and trust in God will certainly share in the governance and ownership of all things, including the earth, as co-heirs with Jesus Christ, who originally made the heavens and the earth, and who will recreate/renovate the heavens and the earth, in the age to come. He meant that when the Tribulation happens, {the time before Jesus comes back 2 Earth} those in Christ who continue to stand strong, that He will protect them, and that when the Earth is perishing in fire w/Satan, that He will give His people the Earth. He's basically saying, "Look at your world now. Do you still wish that you could be like them?" Those who love the Lord will leave the Earth, and live in peace, while those who dont will burn eternally. On and on,and on. I think I'll take the love of my sweet Jesus thank you! Hope this helps and inspires you!!!!

Meeks are peace-loving people. So if your going to analyze the meeks do tend to stay away from trouble. In an ideal world the would be the ones to live longer since they stay away from trouble as opposed to those who seeks or cause. If there is a deeper meaning I hope so and I have not yet contemplated it. Cause this is not an ideal world there are people who shy away from trouble yet trouble finds them. Those who wish not to fight yet are caught in the middle of two warring groups.
