2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!

Ecclesiates is a book that is rather unique in the Bible. If you look carefully you will see that it is written from the perspective of "under the sun" or from someone who is a deist and not a theist. It describes Solomons search for wisdom on his own for the most part although he mentions God in a distant sort of way.

Let's start with a copy of the verse in question:

(Ecclesiastes 1:4 KJV) One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

The problem here are the two words "for ever," correct?

If the earth abides "for ever," then how can there be a new earth, as is clearly taught in Revelation 20 and 21?

The Hebrew word for "for ever" is olam, which equally means "long time."

The point here in our verse is not how long the earth will actually last, but the comparison between how long the earth will last and how long generations last, and all is vanity (Ecc 1:2).

Therefore, if we put this in today's language, it would be something like:

Compared to the earth, everything else is transient.

Rev. 21:1
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Let me point out this bit of info:
There has not been one weapon of war man has not used in times of war. If we have nuclear weapons, I believe there is a good chance we will use them. Want Biblical proof?
Zech. 14:12
And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Only a nuclear weapon can produce such a heat that their eyes would burn up with the tongue before the body hits the ground.

Scary, isn't it?

Well, if we survive a collision with another galaxy, the only thing left would be the sun. Once the sun gets hotter, life on earth is screwed. Once the sun expands, the strength of its orbit is lost, so the earth MIGHT get away, though it would be useless. In all likelihood the earth will be consumed by the expanding sun. And then it becomes a white dwarf. What a waste.

Revelation 21:1 says "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more". So the answer is that the earth that we know today will be distroyed.

With such religious fanatics refining nuclear fuel in the middle east, the human race will not survive. They will not hesitate to nuke the rest of the world in the name of there "peaceful" god. We are doomed so long as religion guides us.

I think they mean the human race will be destroyed, which, in all actuality, the earth will appreciate.

Can it not be replaced, by God, again by the same thing, to God's liking?
