buy a loaf of plain cake or ladyfingers. get one of those really little bottles of kahlua, a small cup of espresso from your local coffee house, some sugar, the smallest container of marscapone, personal cup of vanilla pudding and whipped cream you can find, and some chocolate (chips or candy bar).
slice the cake in about 1/2 inch pieces
put a layer of cake in the bottom of your container (bowl or whatever you're using)
mix half the kahlua with 3/4 cup of the espresso
spoon over cake to get it good and wet
melt chocolate and spread a thin layer over the moist cake
mix the rest of the kahlua, a couple of spoonfuls of espresso, pudding, and as much sugar as you think tastes good in with the marscapone. add some whipped cream to this mixture to make it light and fwuffy (yes, i did say fwuffy)
spread some of this mixture on top of the the chocolate layer
repeat until you run out of ingredients.
you can eat it just like that or refrigerate to let it set and the flavors come out a lil' more

Godiva Tiramisu

5 oz Godiva Liqueur, divided
20 Ladyfingers
1 lb Mascarpone Cheese
4 oz Dark Chocolate, grated
1/2 c Espresso
2 Eggs, separated
1/3 c Confectioner's Sugar

Mix 3 oz of Godiva Liqueur with espresso. Dip ladyfingers into coffee and place in a single layer in shallow baking dish. Cover with any remaining liquid. Beat together Marscarpone cheese, egg yolks, sugar on the remaining liqueur until smooth. Whip egg whites until stiff; fold into cheese mixture. Pour cheese over ladyfingers; sprinkle with chocolate and refrigerate overnight.

Tiramisu

1 10-12 inch Sponge Cake 3 inches Tall
3 oz Strong Black Coffee Or: Prepared Instant Espresso
3 oz Brandy, Rum Or Your Favorite Liqueur
1-1/2 lb Cream Cheese Or Mascarpone*
1-1/2 c Superfine Or Powdered Sugar
Cocoa Powder, Unsweetened

* Cream cheese or mascarpone should be at room temperature.

Cut across the middle of the sponge cake to form two disks, about 1 - 1-1/2 inch thick, each. Blend the coffee or espresso and liqueur together. Sprinkle the bottom half of the cake with the coffee liqueur blend, enough to flavor it strongly, but don't saturate the cake so much that it will collapse. Mix the cream cheese or mascarpone with the sugar and beat the cheese until the sugar is completely dissolved and the cheese is light and spreadable. Spread the bottom half off the cake with half of the creamy cheese, in a fairly thick layer. Set the second half of the cake on the bottom half and repeat the process - sprinkle the coffee/liqueur blend and spread with the remaining cream cheese. Put the cocoa powder into a wire strainer and coat the top layer of cream cheese completely with cocoa. Refrigerate the cake for at least two hours before cutting and serving.

The basic Tiramisu ingredients don't vary much: Mascarpone cheese, raw eggs, sugar, espresso coffee, ladyfingers, liquor and cocoa (heavy cream is optional). The following recipes may vary slightly in amounts of each ingredient that are used, and there may be some small substitutions (e.g., cake for the ladyfingers, the type of liquor used). But essentially, the recipes present Tiramisu in its purest form.

This recipe makes 8 to 10 servings.

Ingredients

Espresso Syrup
WATER, 1/3 cup
SUGAR, 1/2 cup
ESPRESSO, 2/3 cup strong brewed
ITALIAN OR DOMESTIC BRANDY, 1/4 cup, optional
Mascarpone Filling
HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM, 1-1/2 cups
SUGAR, 1/3 cup
VANILLA EXTRACT, 2 teaspoons
MASCARPONE CHEESE, 1 pound, softened to room temperature
SAVOIARDI, 1/2 pound, imported or domestic ladyfingers, or sliced sponge cake
COCOA POWDER
Directions
Syrup
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan.
Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar.
Remove from heat, cool.
Add coffee and optional brandy.
Filling
Whip cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
Fold cream into softened mascarpone.
Assembly
Place a layer of the savoiardi, ladyfingers or sponge cake slices in the bottom of a shallow 2-quart baking dish or gratin dish.
Sprinkle with half the syrup.
Spread with half the filling.
Repeat with remaining savoiardi, syrup and filling, spreading the top smooth, using a metal spatula.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before serving.
Immediately before serving place cocoa in a fine strainer and shake a light coating on surface.
