Mexican decorative tile is nice and catches the interest as soon as you walk in the door. Personally, I like hardwood best though.

Your foyer is the first thing that everyone will see so you want it to be inviting! Any of the options you mentioned would look nice. I've had both ceramic tile and hardwood. If going with tile, please don't go with white or cream, it shows everything, is hard to keep clean, and not warming to the eye. I've owned five homes, I like wood the best, it is inviting, brings rich warm tones into any decor. Go to Lowe's they have a great flooring department, lots of tile to choose from, lot of wood choices. Good luck!

I really like the look of the bamboo "wood" flooring.
It has a little more visual interest than standard hardwood flooring and is environmentally friendly, as it only takes bamboo 30 years to grow to a harvestable size, and is more quickly and easily "renewed" than a hardwood tree.

How about a tile mural floor insert --- Tuscan landscape or Monet's waterlilies-- You will think you are walking on water.

I have slate on mine . It is great, it never gets slippery when wet like marble also it is less porus so it doesn't stain. It is easy to clean as well.

Whatever you decide to go with, make sure it's durable and easy to clean as it will be a major traffic area.
