One or two years is good. Don't do it before that.

Chances are, you are going to get a lot of stern criticism for this question. This generally is a very basic knowledge that you should have WAY before you ever consider breeding you're dog. Do yourself a favor and go here...
http://www.akc.org/breeders/resp_breeding/index.cfm Even if you aren't in the US, these are very good step to being a responsible breeder. You need to start with Step 1... "Prepare Yourself".
Most people want to start at step 9, which is very sad, indeed. If you read through this, it will tell you at what age a dog should be bred...
Edit: Wow! The people on here this time of night are much nicer than some of the ones I see during the day... Good! And they are right. Wait until the dog is at least 2 years old. It is much healthier for them and the puppies... (And please, still read that list. It is very helpful to someone starting out.)

Mine is a year and just had a litter of healthy beautiful pups, delivered by my vet. I would reccomend waiting at least a year and a half to two years to avoid health issues. Any more questions about pits, e-mail me at tigereyez@mchsi.com. I am a breeder and a lover of the breed. I have 4 of my own. Good luck.

These answers are right. One and a half to two years is about the best time to breed. BUT you have to remember that she'll probably go into heat the first time around 7 months and she CAN get pregnant. So be really careful because if there's a male anywhere around, he will get to her!

Any female dog should be at LEAST 1 year old. But before you breed your dog, look at how many are in shelters & rescues. The world does NOT need anymore pits.

Every female dog needs to go through 2 heat cycles before you breed them so they can reach full maturity, not only age wise but also development wise.

well you can breed them as soon as they come into their first heat which is at about 6 months of age. i wouldn't recommend doing this since she isn't done growing and there can be soooo many problems with the pups. i would wait til they are about 1 1/2 - 2yrs. this way she is done growing and the babies will have a chance to fully develop and there should be less complicancy with delivery.

For a large dog 1 1/2 - 2 years would be best. She will be mature physically and mentally and will do a better job raising her pups.
