I'm suspicious that someone my have used my s.s number and info to acquire a credit card.

Because ID theft is so wide spread, the feds have made it mandatory that you may receive a free annual credit report from all 3 major credit reporting agencies. Check it out and review it once a year.

Get a credit report and if you don't recognized the credit card company then report it to the credit bureau they will take care of it. If you can prove who did it then contact a lawyer to handle it.

Request a copy of your credit report from one of the 3 main agencies and then go from there.

I agree with Katherine you can find the number in the phone book and do it automatically with out speaking to anyone. I hope not because that is a horrible thing to go through.
