I started having panic attacks over 15 years ago. I thought I was dying. They are very frightening when full blown, but they can't hurt you. That's the important thing. I would recommend a program I purchased from the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety. Everyone on the program has been through these. It's terrific and cheaper than a hospital stay. I had panic attacks so bad at one point that I couldn't leave the house for a month. After going through the program, I drove out of town for the first time in twenty years!!! No kidding! You may need some medication as well when you begin a program. The program helps us to understand our thinking and how it got us to the panic stage. Excellent and highly recommended. Keep a journal. You will soon be able to pinpoint your negative thinking patterns - a dominate factor in anxiety disorders. Replace those negative thoughts with more compassionate self-talk. For instance, instead of saying to yourself, "I can't believe I had a panic attack and had to pull off the highway , praise yourself for the even the slightest efforts and say to yourself, "Okay, so I got off the highway and took an alternate route that I felt more comfortable with, at least I got out there and made the trip. Then literally give yourself a pat on the back and smile at yourself in the mirror. Be your own parent praising the child within you, whatever the situation! You have the power to overcome this situation as millions have. Get going!

Whenever I get panic attacks, I usually just watch cartoons and that gets my mind off of my thinking I am dying. When I had panic attacks all of the time I went to a therapist and that helped some. When you have one it feels like you are all alone in the world, so talk to someone.I know how bad they can be.Panic attacks destroy your life at their peak performance. There is really nothing you can do about them. All I can say is when you feel one coming on, get your mind off of it quick.Turn up some music, watch TV, sing karaoke, anything will do.Don't get into a quiet place, that will make them worse.I hope they get better.Good luck!

I get them once in a while. In most situations, They can be a side affect from P.D.S.D. Certain situations can "trigger" your emotions into an uproar to the point you just want to "not exist" to the moment has past. My suggestions, try to get some quiet time away from people...(shut away the world) have a good cry, take a muscle relaxer..(or two) get some rest, call a counselor or 24 hr support line when you wake up and get yourself some help! take care and good luck!!
