Smart Village

Building great monuments in Egypt is not a thing of the past. An extraordinary example of Egypt’s high tech infrastructure, economic incentive packages and commitment to the future is the 450 - acres Smart Village project that provides a high tech environment for IT and Telecom companies.

In a bold stroke of innovation that demonstrates Egypt's commitment to the future, the government formed the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) in 1999 to ease the country's transition into the global information society.
Since then, MCIT has been working hard to implement the ambitious National Communication and Information Technology (CIT) Master Plan. A key component of the plan to create incentives to encourage international investments in the IT and telecommunications sector. The Smart Village at the Pyramids is a core-part the government's incentive package.

Upon completion of all the phases there will be 67 office plots, accommodating approximately 30,000 employees.

The Village is comprised of 10% buildings and 90% green area, lakes and water streams.

Smart Village incorporates all the amenities needed by its prospective staff and visitors.

Smart Village's location is geographically central to all major destinations within Greater Cairo located just 20 minutes away from downtown Cairo, 10km from the pyramids. It is also easily accessible from Cairo International Airport.

Smart Village gives the opportunity for any firm operating in the IT sector to rent, lease or buy office space. Firms can also buy land and build their own offices abiding by the same architectual standards of the Village.

"Smart" relates to technology. A "Smart Community" is one that favors high tech and the computer. A "Smart Community" can boast of computers in the all the schools, and a broadband connection to every house.

The term came from "Smart Weapons." In WWII we would send 20 planes with 200 tons of bombs to take out one building. In the Persian Gulf war we used one bomb to take out one target. Now the military is developing "Brilliant Weapons," weapons that have the ability to distinguish from noncombatants and hit only the bad guys. I don't know what a "Brilliant Community" will be, but it will be along the same lines.
