The government is not going to take the words "under God out of the Pledge of Allegiance. At least not right away.
The Humanist (Atheist, Agnostic, Deist, Unitarian, whatever) groups want the words removed from the pledge. The belief in God by the majority of Americans interferes with their (the humanists) religious beliefs.
The "wall of seperation between church and state" is a non issue. It is not in the constitution, and is a phrse taken out of context from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson who was not even a framer of the constitution. Freedom of religion does not mean freedom from exposure to religion.

Hyper political correctness is forcing the government to try and remove god from government and the schools. "Trust in God," it says so on our money. The US was founded by radical Purtians, among others and a lot of people who left Europe so they could practice their religion as they wanted. God is in our history, and should remain in the pledge. I also think that displaying the 10 Commandments in a legal setting is proper. It is the foundation of English Common Law, which is the foundation of American Law.
Now here is the kicker, I don't believe in God. I do believe in History, and History says that God played an important part in our nation's founding, so DON'T CHANGE THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. Oh, by the way the pledge was written, after the civil war, so that former Southern Leaders and Military men could rejoin the union.

Can't you spell better? Why is the GOVERNMENT taking God out of the PLEDGE of ALLEGIANCE? The government is only bowing to the pressures from people who file complaints about the word GOD in anything to do with the State (meaning government) Then the ACLU gets involved and files lawsuits to remove any reference to GOD from everything from our pledge to prayer in classrooms to religious displays on government property. Mostly blame the people that sit on their hands while the ACLU and the atheists are taking God out of everything. Before you know it, you will not be allowed to worship freely. Become an activist to promote the keeping of God in the public realm.

Wilfred, for sh*t's sake, GET A DICTIONARY!! Books on grammar and sentence structure would help you as well, but you probably don't know how to read, anyway!! You're embarrassing the hell out of yourself--that's why we're taking God out of the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!! So you can concentrate on your education, instead of believing in fairy dust stories in an afterlife that you know NOTHING ABOUT!!

because we are guarenteed by law freedom of religion, or a lack there of if we wish. The government cannot force religion on anyone, and sence the plege is recited by children of all background, they should be able to do so with their peers and not have to repeat the word god if it isnt their belief

Because some morons out there seem to think that the Constitution guarantees them freedom FROM religion, not freedom OF religion. Thus, they are forcing their beliefs on the majority (since over 80% of America believes in God).

Some people raise their children to worship differently, Jehovah or Ala or Buddha or no god at all. these children are raised their entire life to believe and worship one thing and then go into schools and other places and pledge their allegiance to "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" some people feel it derails their teachings. that's all. It doesn't make them close minded, it doesn't make them bad. I personally don't think it's such a bad idea to separate Religion and Politics, as they do not mix that well anyway :)

The pledge was created in 1893. The phrase "under god" was added in 1954.
In 2002, the US Circuit Court ruled: "The statement that the United States is a nation 'under God' is an endorsement of religion. It is a profession of a religious belief, namely, a belief in monotheism."
If you doubt that the phrase "under God" is religious, then try substituting 'under Buddha' or 'under Allah,' or 'under Krishna,' and repeat the Pledge.

Because some people who are either mad at God or just don't believe are intolerent and decided to piss off most of the country by going through the court system.
