My cat sprayed on my clothes, how can I get the smell out of my clothes?

Is there any special detergent or anything to wash the clothes in to get the smell out? I hate to just throw them away.

coffee! My cat peed on one of my favorite shirts. I washed it ten times and the smell was still there. I even tried vinegar. No luck. I decided to try coffee because candle shops have little jars of coffee to sniff to clear out your nose before smelling the next scent so the smells don't mix. I filled the sink with boiling hot water and added about a cup and a half of coffee grounds into the water. I let it soak for awhile (give it 4hours or more) then wash it in regular detergent. My shirt came out great!!!! Good luck!

Febreeze for the laundry is a must for this situation. A little added in with your detergent should do the trick.
Also, make sure that your clothes stay in a closet where the cat can repeat the habit, just in case.

Use a really good detergent like Tide - no discount types. If it normally calls for one cup, use one and a half. Add 1 cup of table salt. The salt breaks down the protein in the urine that causes the oder and stains. Important - use one and a half times the amount of liquid fabric softener that you would normally use. AND have the cat neutered or it will just keep on marking it's territory all over your house.

My cat went on me and I washed my clothes with regular detergent, warm water and by themselves with an extra full water level. I rinsed them two times and they smelled just fine. I also washed them immediately so if yours have sat around for a while, this may not work.

Vinegar is good for removing the smell of cat pee..you can use it on your carpet too.
If you have the extra cash to spend, go to a pet store or your vet clinic..they'll have products especially for this problem.

I think though, you should really be asking why your cat sprayed on your clothes. Is this first time? How old is your cat? How long have you had it? Is it male or female? Has a new cat moved into the area? Have you recently shifted to a new area? Have there been dramatic changes to your household?

Cats suffer from trauma just like we do. Maybe your moggy is trying to get your attention, or is marking it's territory..namely YOU!
I had a cat that starting doing this to me after owning her for 10 years. I answered 'yes' to the last three questions. Her vet told me she was staking her claim on me & letting the new neighbourhood know I was hers, as well as the new cat that moved in next door. As we were discussing a medication programme for her, it came out that I was about to leave the country & needed to find a new home for her. The vet stopped in his tracks, & said he believed she sensed I was leaving. He added 'depression' to her list of psychological issues, & strongly recommeded I have her put to sleep, because she was unlikely to respond to the medication with a new home. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. 2 years later, writing about it now, I'm having a cry over my little girl all over again.

Try tomato juice.... just rub it on the stained area....if they still stink afterward wash them in regular old detergent and it may lift out the stain/stink.

If it happens often, talk to your vet, there is something you can give them to get rid of that ammoniay smell.

Also good if your cat sprays in the litter box ... lol like mine, silly cats
