I proposed.
We've been happily married 4 years now, and many more to come.

There is nothing wrong with doing it yourself, you have to make life happen FOR you, not wait for life to happen TO you.

It can work any way you want it to work. It's a tradition that a man gets his fiancé an engagement ring, but it's not a rule. A proposal is not about jewelry exchanging hands, it's about one person asking the other to marry. When the answer is "yes", you're engaged, no matter who asked, and no matter what jewelry was (or wasn't) involved.

I think a man is usually the one who does not want his arm twisted into marriage. So many ladies give men ultimatums, instead of proposals. SMILE

If the woman knows the man wants to be married, it is ok for her to ask him, but if she knows he is not ready and uses that as a weapon, it is not right.

I think the reason the man has always been the one is because he is the ultimate head of the household and will be in the marriage. Next, if he does it, you KNOW he is ready and do not have to guess.
So either is fine, but I personally prefer the man to ask me. I just feel if he really wants me for life, he will make the effort. And then, I will never feel that He is just doing it because I asked. HE wanted to so......smile

I'm an old fashioned girl when it comes to this, but you know what I think its okay for other women to propose if she feels comfortable with it and not going to eat the guys head off later, claiming she was the one that had to do all the work.

It's tradition. I let my husband know I was interested in persuing marriage w/him very early in the relationship (like on our third date). we both had canceled weddings planned for the same weekend six years earlier (to the date for his/day after for mine) and we started talking about that. We were married a little over a year later.
