If so, what is the maximum time you believe politicians should serve and how do we, the people, get those term limits enacted?

I would like to see term limits for all politicians. One six year term for president and congress. This would ensure a routine turnover of the people in power and, I believe, limit corruption. Not only that, but it would cause new ideas and beliefs/values to be constantly introduced making for a more accurate representation of the voters.

No, term limits would not limit corruption. The problem is not the amount of time someone is in office, it is the amount of power they are given while in office. How many times have you heard "you can't fight City Hall"? When rookies come in wanting to reform the system they are generally blacklisted and ousted unless they keep quiet and/or go along with the corruption. The system can't be reformed because the people who benefit from it being corrupt don't want that (those are not the people you probably think are in charge).

I do think term limits like we have with the President would curb corruption in House & Senate plus other offices. The longer in office the greater the power. Many senators have been in for decades. Senator Jesse Helms was in the Senate for 30 years before retiring. He had great power in Foreign relation Commitee, I do not think he was corrupt but others did. They are voting on term limits all over the country right now. Call your Congressmen & Senators offices.

OMG Absolutely YES!!!! It always amazes me how when a person is elected say into the Senate they are labelled a 'junior senator' as though their being elected is somehow less than the other guy. Freaking crazy!!!

No one congressional member should have anymore power than the other based on the number of times they have been elected. That is just plain down right messed up.

As far as the length of the terms... I'd say maximum 12 years because I do believe there is a short learning curve for newly elected members to get the processes down.

i feel that a politician should be limited to one term and one term only, regardless of office, so a mayor can not become the president, as an example. i feel that that would prevent the politician from doing stuff just to get re-elected and vote for the stuff that's really important, that would hopefully change things so that they aren't concerned about going with the current fad and focus on the long term.

One will probably never curb corruption. Politics and corruption go hand in hand. I am a believer in term limits and believe that the limit should be no longer than 4 years... I look at such slobs as Kennedy... McCain... Fiske... others who are in there for ever and I know they are corrupt as hell.. along with many many Governors... and MAYORS. comparable to that creep in Louisiana who has milked the city of New Orleans dry

term limits are perfect for america since they do for lazy voters what the lazy voter cannot do for himself which is to get rid of lousy lawmakers after a set amount of time. of course the flip side is that the decent lawmakers get swept out with the same broom and their are far fewer decent ones than not and therefore much more valuable. the solution is something that will shake the voter out of his apathy. maybe people will start voting before george bush outlaws voting as a terrorist tool. but i doubt it.
the solution is an educated voter.

yes, because they get so greedy and they forget who they are helping. the term should be for two years like the presdieny it gose for four years so the longest would be eight.
It would have to be passed in the congress and then to the people the voters. Get a pettion going and get signtures of the people and then give it to the law makers. If people would do this and voice their opion when things would get done. Like the train trench in nevada we voted no and still it went in.

Term limits hasn't limited political corruption yet, so why should it work now?
