There is only one Universal Spirit, our source of life and creation. However, mankind invented different names for this spirit, called it God, Allah, Jehova, Christ, Bhudda, Krishna, and etc.
During the past centuries, thousands have been crucified, died in wars because of different beliefs, even today. Why?

First off, your assumption of a "universal" spirit is a false assumption.
"Hear Oh Israel, the Lord your God is One." His name is Jehovah, Jealous, Almighty God, Counselor, Prince of Peace, Jesus, Holy Spirit.
The God of Israel, is not the same as the gods of the other religions that you mention. They are all inferior and false deities.

As far as wars, The Bible states in the book of James, that Wars come from those who seek to have their own way and can not, instead of seeking the best and benefit of others more important than themselves. Basically, man is selfish, and he wars to get his own way based on his desires, and uses the name of God to justify his own religious position.

They fight to show the others that their religion is the only true one.. They couldnt take it when anyone else prefers another religion to be true compared to theirs.. This is similar when you have an opinion. You might think that your opinion is the best but there will bound for someone to defy what you have to say... But the most important thing for now is just simply be yourself.. Believe in what you believe and not follow suit.. i.e fighting with people of other beliefs... ; p

I think you just answered your own question...

Lots of different ways to interpret = Lots of arguments.

"There is only one GOD, Jehovah. He is not a universal spirit. He is a jealous god, all other "god's names" are not Him."

Is a CLASSIC example.
