Only God can truly change someone. We can't love someone into changing. And if we have to change who we are so someone will love us, then in the end will we truly love ourselves?

Well... none of the above, really; those are very limited choices. I think that ideally it should be this:
me attempting to be as Christ-like as I can (honest, gentle, meek, kind, truthful, loving, compassionate, steadfast) for the rest of my life, so that all who know me might be compelled to eventually determine the source of my good character traits. And it wouldn't be something I could take credit for, either. Trust me, every Christian receives help from the Lord; I have a LOT to work on to get to those character traits. There is no way I can be like that unless God's Holy Spirit helps me; I should know, because I've tried it on my own. Maybe Wonderwoman can do it, but not me.
Anyway, my point is, Jesus would want me to walk the walk so that others will want to change themselves.

Jesus would prefer you to .... to love others just the way they were... Only God can change a heart.
For Jesus on the other hand, he prefers loving people just the way they are, and letting them change as they see the error of their ways. He helps us work on things one at a time. I always loved the following phrase: You don't get good to get God, you get God to get good.
If someone feels they can't get rid of a problem, maybe they should give Jesus a try. You can always change your mind later.
If someone has a desire to change

Jesus just loved everyone as they were. We should try to be like Jesus. Jesus was an example of how we should try to live. It YOU are feeling challenged with trying to love someone ask Jesus to give you the heart to love even people who are unlovable.

I think jesus would prefer you loving someone just as they are...trying to change people to your preference/belief is unfair to the other person...thats why god made us all different....so that we could be our self>>>>> Different in so many ways

Love your neighbor as you love yourself. If you have to change anything about someone, Jesus does not recommend it.

Me loving you just as you are.
We are talking only about love, aren't we. Because, Jesus loved the people that killed Him and forgave them, even when He knew they would not see Him in heaven.
