Is there a certain religion that requires it's female followers to wear only long skirts and keep their hair very long? Just curious.

Which religion is it? I thought it was Amish, but I'm not sure.

I know Amish women wear long dresses/skirts everyday, and I think they all have long hair (they just pull it up in a bun or braid under their bonnets).

And just in case some ignorant person wants to tell you that Mormons are like this, it is false. Don't be confused with the people who call themselves "Fundamentalist Mormons" and practice polygamy and make their women have long hair and wear long dresses/skirts everyday. I'm a Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), and I have short, highlighted hair and wear make-up and jeans everyday. The only women in our church who are even required to wear a skirt or a dress everyday (and it doesn't have to be floor-length, just below the knee), are the sister missionaries. But even they get a day off from wearing skirts & dresses and can wear knee-length shorts, capris or jeans once a week - plus they are only missionaries for 18 months, so it's really not that bad (I've been home from my mission for almost 2 years). I'm not trying to be defensive, but when I was a missionary, people asked me that all the time - if we all had to wear skirts/dresses all the time. There's a lot of misinformation out there about the Mormons.

I believe that you are talking about the Amish sect. It is usually discouraged for women to cut their hair, while it is encouraged that women only wear long skirts.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

I believe the Amish and Mennonite sects follow this guideline. Having lived in the western areas of Pennsylvania I have observed many of my neighbors who belonged to these religions following this dress code. (I think the men are also not allowed to cut their facial hair.)

I used to work with quite a few Mormons when I lived in Oregon. The females always wore long skirts, long-sleeved shirts, and could not cut their hair.

YES... THE UPC OR UNITED PENTECOSTALS ORGANIZATION... IT'S CALLED PENTECOSTAL... I'M A PENTECOSTAL... BY I AM A TRINITARIAN PENTECOSTAL... I BELIEVE IN THE TRINITY.. THE FATHER, SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST... THE UNITARIAN PENTECOSTALS THAT BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS ALL THREE AND THEY ARE NOT SEPERATE ENTITIES... THAT ARE PART OF THE UPC, DENOMINATION ARE THE ONES THAT WEAR THEIR HAIR LONG... THEY DON'T CUT IT BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS THAT A WOMANS' HAIR IS HER GLORY. THEY WEAR LONG SKIRTS AND DRESS MODESTLY BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT PROVOKE MEN TO HAVE LUSTFUL THOUGHTS... THEY DON'T WEAR MAKEUP BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS NOT TO PAINT YOUR FACES.. AND THEY BELIEVE THAT THE WAY GOD MADE US IS THE WAY THAT WE SHOULD LOOK WITHOUT PUTTING ON A VANITY SHOW... THE WOMAN ARE NOT MADE TO DRESS THIS WAY... THEY CHOOSE TO... IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONTROL... THEY CHOOSE THIS WALK ON THEIR OWN... BUT THEY ARE NORMAL PEOPLE... IT'S NOT LIKE THEY ARE PART OF SOME CULT OR ANYTHING...

THEY ARE VERY LEARNED IN THE BIBLE AND COULD ARGUE THEIR POINT TO THE DEATH... WE INTERPRET IT DIFFERENTLY THAN THEY DO... BUT EITHER WAY... THESE THINGS WON'T SEND YOU TO HELL... ACCORDING TO WHAT MOST OF THEM BELIEVE...

There are some fundamentalist churches or "church of god" churches where the women do keep that style of dress - also usually no make-up. I am not sure if it one of their tenets or not but I know the people you are talking about - also called "holiness churches" around here... I am in the good ol' Bible belt though..GA

some pentecostal sects believe that. It comes from just reading a section or single scripture of the bible without taking the whole bible into context.

Yes, churches that like to have CONTROL over their women. Too bad the women think this is OK and go along with it!

Yes I know of one actually, but never learned the name. Nice people though. They are Christian, but don't remember exactly what they call themselves.
