Rahab's house was not actually "on top" of the wall, but rather "next" to the wall. It is a bad translation if you will and doesn't get the meaning across. For example in English where is your house located? " On 315 Washington St." You are not actually "on" the street but the street runs next to it. So when we read ancient texts and they say "on the forum" "on the wall" "on the gate" "on the market" the location is next to that location.
Jericho's walls, of the clay brick variety, were several meters thick with houses along the inside. These houses would belong to the lower classes and less affluent, because they are the least protected and would be the farthest from the center of the city where everything was located. The collapse of Jericho's walls is not going to be catastrophic to the houses "on the wall" as long as the houses are not attached directly to the wall. We do not know how the walls fell, only that they fell, and they fell in such a way that they did not smash Rehab's house. Given what I said above, it is completely possible that the falling of the walls didn't have to crush the house, so we can take the word of scripture on that occurrence.

Joshua 2:18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
They provided a way of escape.

She did not live on the wall. She lived in a house. She hid them in her house until the people hunting them passed by and them she let them down by a rope.
