Means you need a new TV

2 things can make that sound. the high voltage transformer developed a hole and shut down the set or the crt/picture tube developed a hole and vented which would also shutdown the set. most tv shops will charge you a nominal fee to tell you exactly what it would cost for repair. rule of thumb is if the repair is more than half the cost of a new one then buy the new one.
yes your vcr will still record. without knowing the age or type of set this is the best i can do.

good luck.

Probably some contacts on the circuit board in the TV overheated - a meltdown. If it's old with an expired warranty, then it's time for a new TV

The sound means that you have fried the internal mainframe display and the screen projection as well with all of the main and necessary wires and chips rendering your television useless and unable to be used correctly in the future.

You might have a bug caught in your wiring. Another possibility is that you have too much dirt back in there. But you can't clean it. You have to spring for a new TV, or take it to a TV repair shop for cleaning.

If the TV is old, I'd say replace it. It sounds pretty dead. But for a new TV, I can't help you.

Uhh..... Maybe a snake unplugged it. Or maybe if it's reallt old a tube blew or somthing. Smash it witha sledge hammer and throw it away. (sorry I'm really destructive)
