Many animals will "lick thier wounds" to help clean it. A dog will lick thier masters wounds they same way they would lick thier litter mates wounds. As far as Rabies is concerned....rabies IS transmitted through saliva...in which case..yes...it could be transmitted through licking a wound. But a rabid animal is only contagious during the last 10-14 days before it dies from rabies and most of the time...the animal will NOT be licking another animals wounds for him. They tend to want to be left alone during this period.

Dogs licking your face is a sign of submission. The wound thing, I guess I have never heard of that. But if you watch wolves in a pack, the submissive animals always lick the alphas mouths. It's their way of showing that they understand they are lower on the totem than their masters

Dogs lick faces as a sign of submission.... But the wound licking thing, that is just using the abrasiveness of the tongue to clean a wound. A dog's mouth is NOT cleaner than ours, but simply the act of repeated licking of wounds helps to clean it.

I'm not sure what your question has to do with rabies or what particular case you are working on. But dogs do this as a sign of happiness, affection, or empathy. There are good arguments for dogs being able to sense how their owners are feeling. They often respond. I remember when I was a child, I fell and hurt my knee. I cried and my uncles dog pawed at me and tried to get me to get up and move. It knew that something was wrong. Type "dog saves family" in your search engine and see what you get. Do animals have feelings? You bet they do. On rabies, well, I don't know what kind of case information you are looking for, but perhaps this site will get you started.

I have heard when a dog licks wounds. What ever is in there saliva helps heal heal the wounds faster. So that is what i have been told a long time ago. So if you have a cut, get your dog to heal it up for you

They lick their face because they love them, and giving kisses, and they lick wounds because if you've ever had one you'd see they help heal them! Dogs have the cleanest mouths!
