I just don't get it either. I asked one why he could just keep think that the earth was about 6 thousand years old, and you know the fossils etc. His answer was that Gods word (meaning the Bible) had to be taken on faith word for word. I think he needs to read that a bit more carefully. I would like to see how he does with all the laws in the old testament.
I tell you it makes me feel like we are never going to be a peaceful enlightened people with folks like that.

I paste this from a different answer I seen here. I thought it was good.

Is this the evidence for evolution?
Piltdown Man - A deliberate hoax. Ended up being a ape jaw attached to a human skull that was stained to look old.

Java Man - The discover later rejected it stating that a human & ape were just found in proximity.

Pekeing Man - Tools & human bones were found near the apes whose brains they were eating (monkey brains are still eaten in China).

Nebraska Man - An entire person (and family) was envisioned from a single tooth... a tooth that later proved to have come from a pig.

Lucy - Reclassified as an extinct ape.

Ramapithecus - A jaw & teeth were eventually dismissed as early human in origin (an Orangutan).

Neanderthal.... a man?
It was once thought that the Neanderthal was a man. But, thanks to advancement in science, genetic DNA research indicates that the chromosomes do not match those of humans. They do match those of bi-pedal primates (apes) though.

Tools? The use of crude tools by Neanderthal does not mean they were human. Many animals including birds, fish, and mammals use "tools".

Shelter? If Neanderthal created shelters, it does not imply they were human. Many animals (beavers, birds, bees) also construct shelters.

Religion? There is no evidence that Neanderthal practiced any form of worship or religion. Interestingly, that is the primary way the bible separates Man from animals.

Why then do some people still insist Neanderthal was man?

I have gone to the wikipedia site you listed. Of what is listed only 4 claim to be ape to human examples. I don't think that's enough to say that apes evolved into man. The only one of those four that lived in the last million years was "Homo erectus". The wikipedia site says this about this species:

"However, recent discoveries and analysis indicate that H. erectus situation on the human evolutionary tree may be phylogenetically akin to H. neanderthalensis, in that its lineage did not give rise to later variants of H. sapiens."

If you are to reject creationism (and I assume embrace evolution/Darwinism) you have some hard questions to answer. Some of these include:

How did the earth ever come into being? What processes are involved in creating the earth? What natural process can create something from nothing?

How did life originate on earth? How do chemicals on earth randomly create life? How does a single cell organism "evolve" into human beings?

I will grant you that Darwinism/evolution has some interesting points and ideas, but I think after you research what it teaches, it will leave you with more questions than answers.

Keep asking questions and researching :-)

Well, technically, there never has been found a DEFINITIVE fossil to prove once and for all that evolution happened. The problem is that because of the very nature of evolution there will never be ONE difinitive fossil and THAT is what creationists insist on seeing.

A Christian who believes in God's creation THROUGH evolution.

And the above comment on the 10,000 year age of the Earth is pure rubbish. You CANNOT alter the LITERAL rock hard evidence found right here on the planet.

I believe in creation and evelotion. It took tousnds of years for earth to form and for life to evolve.I differ wth the statement that Nean.Man wasn`t human.Of course he was ,he just wasn`t of the Adimite race.

there is PROOF of the earth being only around 10,000 years old.
1.The shrinking sun. 2.natural gases. 3. The earths rotation, etc. You might want to learn more about these.... you might want to get both sides of the story before you make your decision on which to believe.

This is not a religious question nor spiritual. Go convert or preach in Science! Ponder on that!

Simple: they believe that IF evolution is true, than their religion must necessarily be false.
