Do you think big dogs know how unfair it is?

Question

Small dogs can get away with everything, but if a big dog does it, he is very naughty.

Like, my little dog can run through the house, and jump on and off furniture, but the big dogs have to be quiet and lie down.

If a big dog growls at strangers, he is a menace, but a little dog just gets a laugh.

Big dogs have to behave on a leash, but little dogs can run all around the walker.

Do you think big dogs notice how unfair it is?

i KNOW they do. i have big and little dogs at home. my 80# Catahoula just sits there with this look on his face, while my mini Dachshund runs circles around him...i can just hear him saying "If only you were about 50# heavier...then i could knock you on your butt little man!!"
but he wont cause he knows he'd get in trouble.
hahaha.

but then..sometimes the little guy DOES get knocked on his butt when im not lookin...and it puts him in his place. no harm no foul.

I have a Great Dane so I know all about the Big Dog thing. Little dogs do get away with a lot and hardly thought of as menaces. The benefits to being a big dog though are there. Little dogs can be on your lap, but they get missed in the shuffle when the both greet you at the door because you never have to bend down to pet the big dog.
With my big dog, he can corner me and not move until I pet him, my little dog doesn't stand a chance.
The leash thing I have no idea about. My dane runs off leash all the time because he behaves a million times better than my little dog, so I guess that's not a fair answer.
I don't think Marty notices the unfairness. He sleeps with me every night, he's the first to be pet every time I come in the door because he is right in my face. For my safety, he's not allowed to jump on me unless invited, but I do give him the privilage of seeing eye to eye literally. I am proud of his growling when I am alone with strangers. I know he wouldn't hurt anyone, but he sure deters anyone from hurting me.
I guess both sizes have their strong points and I am sure if a big dog notices anything unfair, the little dog has twice as much to say about unfairness. Little dogs always "talk" more

Sadly, my big dog gets to do whatever she wants. She is fairly well behaved and I've never had any problems with her running or jumping. I'm sure if you had a little dog and a big dog it would be confusing for the big dog if it could not do as much as the little dog. I guess if you had small and big dogs you would have to treat them the same to be fair. The funny thing are there are some big dogs who don't realize how big they are and think they are lap dogs!

I think that it is unfair that people with little dogs do not train them. I have 3 big dogs and I have them well trained one because a well trained dog is a happier dog in the long run and two big dogs(100+) can knock you over if they run around alot. My big dogs have a pet cat(7+lbs) and the cat does pretty much as he pleases but that is a cat and cats will do what ever they want pretty much.

Big dogs should be treated the same as little dogs. Big dogs are GREAT!! The only thing is dogs should not be allowed to growl at people. Tell them no firmly when they do that. I don't think dogs really notice this though.

Not only does the big dog feel the difference in treatment but the little dog knows it too. Little dog is rubbing it in when your not looking.

That's cute, and very true! I have two big dogs who are always in trouble! But when my friend's little Pug tries to tear down the door to eat the mailperson, we giggle. I think my big dogs need some extra love. :)

If you have two dogs and you treat one differently than the other, then yes, I think the dog that was treated unfairly would notice. Seriously. Just because dogs don't think in words doesn't mean they don't have feelings.

yes cause i have a big dog and 2 little dogs and the little dogs get to be in the house and the big one has to stay outside!!! it makes me feel bad cause when it rains the big dog has to stay outside and that makes me cry !!!!!!! but anyways yes i think big dogs have more brains than little dogs cause big dogs know whats going on and little dogs have no clue whats going on but yes to your question!!!!!

I have big dogs when we come across little dogs they look at them like they are little and stupid if a little dog is misbehaving

Yea I got a lab and believe me he notices when someone else is getting attention. But we let him do what he wants, sleep on our beds, literally sit down on the couch like a human lol, and if he barks at someone we just tell them he's not vicious.
