Never EVER EVER feed dog from table. If someone else is they MUST stop. And the behavior should eventually [may take years] extinguish.

First, you need to make sure that he never (ever) gets rewarded for the begging. Dogs do what works, and if it has worked (even just a couple of times) extinguishing that behavior will take a while. Persistence and consistency are key.

In addition, try teaching him to do something else when it's dinner time. If he's in a down/stay on his bed then he can't come and beg from you.

Consistency, consistency, consistency!! Make the dog leave the room when you are eating. NEVER give your dog table food....this is what starts the problem in the first place!!! If you have to put the dog out doors , or in another room at meal time. If your dog begs, tell him NO in a firm voice and make him lay down. Repeat as needed. I have 3 dogs and all are pretty obedient. They never get table food at all.

This is instinct that goes back to their pack behavior. In every pack of dogs, there is a leader and everyone else falls behind him in their own rank. When they hunt, the leader eats first, then the next in line, etc. Your dog recognizes that you are the pack leader and is waiting for you to finish eating so it can be his turn.

Try designating an area for your dog to remain in while you eat. If he stands right next to you, he will beg. If you can get him to stay, say, in the doorway of your dining room, he will be so far away that he will eventually just sit and wait. When he's close, he thinks there may be a chance that he's next. When he's farther away, he realizes that he probably isn't getting any food anytime soon.

Getting him to sit in the doorway, well that's another question.

Goto a local pet store and ask about dog obedience classes. You pay about $50 and in 10 weeks you'll have a dog that listens to you. I use to work at Guide Dogs of America and did dog obedience training when I worked at pet stores. Get a 6 foot leather leash with a proper choke chain. Ask the pet store manager for advice. It's free and you'll get the best advice.

Feed him god food not people food (if you do feed him people food) and do not even look at him when he begs, make it perfectly clear to anyone coming to your place that feeding the dog from the table is not acceptable

You must first have a dog bed for your dog in the house and train your dog to go there and lay down on it until you are finished eating. It works with my dogs and I have 3 big dogs.

Dont respond to the begging - ignore the dog. Eventually they get the idea.

You could try not giving him part of your food and after awhile he will know he is not getting any of what you are eating. Try putting the dog in another room during mealtime or how about making his mealtime the same as yours so he will have something to eat also.

When you eat, put him either outside or in another room. If he begs, at other times, (snacks and such) scold him and put him in the same place. Give him his food away from where others eat. Just some ideas, good luck.
