how do you curl hair with rags?

trying to give my hair the spiral curl look the old fashion way, I've seen it before but a long time ago.

I have done this with crumpled pieces of newspaper. Roll up pieces of newspapers or your rags. Wrap the hair around the rag and roll it towards your head. When it reaches the scalp (make sure they are tight) you can tie the rags at your scalp to hold the curl. Untie them and the curls will fall. If you want them to be spiral then wrap the hair and tie it vertically. If the curls are too tight, then you can gently pull them apart with your fingers.

Gosh I remember doing this to a girl-friends hair back in the 70's, she had very thick hair and when we took it out she had the bushiest 'fro ! Not what we were expecting and boy did we laugh ! I would guess we left it in to long so be careful. Like the lady said above, just wrap stands of hair up in the rag (about 6 inches or so) until you reach your scalp and then tie it off.
