I am planning on redecorating my son's room during the summer. He doesn't care what I do. His favorite colors are orange and brown. If you have any creative ideas, please share them with me.

oops...looks like I have a mama's boy. Far from it, my decorator is just coming up with really yucky ideas. Since my son will be a senior in high school next year, I was looking for suggestions to update his bedroom. And yes, he does have a job and makes really good money...we're just trying to get the project finished while he is away during the summer at a college seminar. Thanks for your concern about his mental well being.

Try to draw from his favorite activities. Is he on the football team, does he ride the rodeo, what school does he go to? Try to use a theme that means something to him.

Well, I would love it if my mama would decorate my room, but she's in jail. I'd definitely go with the warmer colors and earthtones. Use darker colors on the walls and with white paint faint replicas of famous art work across the room. It will give it depth and flava! Check out this guy named Douglas Wilson. I was at Border's yesterday lookig at home design books with a friend (she's a girl, but am I gay?) and anyway, he had alot of really awesome ideas for different ways of painting and cool papering techniques to give the way a multi-toned feel with some depth. But of course, I'm an 18 year old still living with my parents, so I'm obviously completely insane. I ate paint chips and frogs when I was a kid.
oh and, my Mom totally did the spongepaint thing to my room and it was ALOT of work and didn't look the greatest, she ended up just painting a solid color over all of it. Sort of a waste of time in this kid's opinion.

When my son was 16 or 17 we were doing some house remodeling and his room was to get new flooring. It made sense to update the wall paint at the same time even though my son didn't care and thought what he had was fine.
We decided to paint the walls an eggshell white and since his favourite color was green we went ahead and added green accents in a throw rug, drapes, and complimentary comforter. All of his furniture remained as it was in fine condition.
This update created an adult space that matched his maturity and, in the future when he finds his own living space, the room will be available for other uses.

If he's 18 that's his problem, I think he should decorate his own bedroom, is he a mama's boy, he should be out finding a job & getting his own place.

I wouldn't do a bedroom in Orange. It's an energizing color. A bedroom should be done in color that promotes a relaxed state of mind like blue and green.

You could have a white trim and paint the walls a light tanned brown colour. Maybe on the wall behind the bed you could put it a dark chocolately brown. Have a white duvet and put some throw pillows; various oranges. You could put a bamboo plant with bright green leaves in a corner. If there is a window you could have orange/white striped fabric as drapes.

Orange and brown - match the orange from a basketball and match the brown from a football.
Do wainscoting. Paint the lower half brown, and the walls and ceiling orange. Use footballs and basketballs as accessories. Then take some black and white photos of the things he likes and have them framed with a dark black frame and white matting. If he doesn't like football and basketball, lose the sports accessories.

Be honest with yourself. there are very few 18 year olds, male or female who want there parents/parent to decorate there room. this time is a time of self discovery and them doing it themselves is an open reflection of how they feel on the inside and how they view the world outside. Leave 'em be.

I would do the base orange and stencil then paint various sizes of brown circles. Orange alone might be too much for a bedroom, but the brown would calm it down. The circles thing is kinda retro, he might like it.

I actually spongepainted my sons room. The walls are white then sponge painted over it with a gray color then spongepainted over that blue....his room is done in outerspace...but this could work for sports themes as well or oceanic theme perhaps....when his room was done in sports...i used a small round sponge dipped in white, then with toothpick drew the necessary lines with red paint to create baseballs under the border which was about 4 foot from floor. .....umm...i got nothin for orange & brown....srry...blues my fav. color!...best of luck to u & enjoy redoing the room...i love to do things like that!
