a church of this world and not of God...

also the Bible says in
Matthew 24:3-14:

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Depends on what you think the nature of sin is. We believe sin is only when you harm someone -- and I would leave any church where a pastor preached otherwise.

If it harms no one, it is not sin -- and is not treated as such.

Earthly topics -- which cover such things as social and economic justice, equal treatment for all persons, an end to torture, an end to the use of landmines, an end to poverty, and so forth and so on are the topics that drive the real world -- and help resolve the issues that are harming people. They are the topics that should be preached about -- they are all that ultimately matters -- and it is through our handling of them that we live as Christ lived, as creatures of love and light.

PS Closing note. The Church existed for nearly 400 years before the canon of books was formed. The canon is composed of the books that have the least to offend several sub-sects of Christianity long vanished and the most to please what are commonly called in theology -- the proto-orthodox emergent church. I am sorry -- but the Bible is no more divinely inspired, and no more special than Dr. Seuss, preaching from it or not preaching from it has nothing to do with believing in Jesus Christ and therefore being Christian. Reading all of your comments makes me think that you have missed the idea that Christianity is one thing only -- worship, service, and love to Jesus Christ and love of your fellowman, and have instead, substitued biblio-idolatry -- for which I am sure you can find many excuses, mostly drawn from the pages of the very fallible book itself.

I think I get what you are trying to ask but the wording is throwing me off a bit.
1) sin is the biggest earthbound topic there is (no sin in heaven)

I think you mean that he/she preaches on conditions in the world not on personal growth.

Speaking to and out against injustice, inequality and opression are paramount to Christianity and all of us should hear about these problems and get involved. To do this effectively we need the tools that come from personal growth.

A balance between the sermons is prefered otherwise you get either a self-serving activists or a self serving country club.

these are the new mega churches that preach politics business and community values and are the swing vote changing the american country to a more conservative veiw of earn it yourself no more hand outs.
jesus i thought wanted everyone to be his brothers keeper but not these days you are on your own and if you suffer it is jesuses way of showing you he did not like the way you lived.
You needed to get educated and work making weapons of mass destruction billions are pumped into defense contractors pockets who have strict hiring practices and government clearences required so people are hand picked and the ones picked are married 2 kids and go to church .the rest are hard working small business owners who pass out business cards in the parking lot and have there cars and trucks pasted with ads and e-mail addresses.
so i figure GOD is not there and do not bother with organozed religions at all .no proof of jesus john the baptist despite efforts to link them with people and leaders of the day no records are found in history to support the birth or death of jesus or john the baptist so i go with the facts there are none to support religion .
NO moses or other great jewish leaders like abraham ever exsisted but rather the idea man should have rules to live by and a single god made this easy to manage man .
a consistent messege to maintain peace and harmony among the illiterate masses and now in the last century and this we are coming to see that all religion is a sales pitch for the masses to control our thinking and keep us under control.if you knew all you had was this live and nothing else no matter what you did what would prevent you for taking what you want.a social conscience was born in religion and there iss no such thing as sin.

Where the Word is not preached (including these things) the people starve spiritually. Where sin is not preached there is no need of a cross or a Savior, it only becomes a lip service.

Every Pastor has his/her own style. Maybe he feels that lifting a person up in their everyday life strengthens that person against temptation and sin. The church is more than just a pastor and perhaps the other teachers and lay members can fill in the gap of biblical teaching.

Maybe the pastor is enjoying some sinning too and needs the income. Pastors don't want to bite the hands that feed em.

Besides, hollering against sin is not necessarily effective leadership towards better / more effective / more joyful living.

True believers leave and the congregation fills up with people like the ones described in this passage.

2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

The people in the chrch will continue to sin and the Pastor will have to bare some of the responsibility on Judgement Day.
